Football players often spew taunts at the opposing team.

4 3. pugnacious Adj.-showing a readiness or desire to fight or argue
The pugnacious teenagers argue with their parents.

5 4. countered Verb - to speak or act in opposition to.
After Jenny insulted Claire, she countered with a sarcastic remark.

6 5. visage Noun - a person's face.
Henry has a pleasant, angular visage.

7 6. fray Noun - a battle or fight.
I jumped into the fray when someone lunged toward my brother.

8 7. rapscallion Noun - a mischievous person.
My sneaky friend Jimmy is a rapscallion.

9 8. goaded Verb - provoke or annoy (someone) to incite an action or reaction. Josh goaded Martin until he asked him to stop.

10 9. jeered Verb - make rude and mocking remarks, typically in a loud voice. The crowd jeered loudly when the Saints scored.

11 10. quiescent Adj. -causing no trouble or symptoms; not active
You must be quiescent while taking a test.

12 11. exacerbate (verb) to make a problem, bad situation, or negative feeling worse He didn’t play in the game as he was afraid he might exacerbate his old knee injury.
