7. GIMP FOR IMAGE EDITING
GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is one of the popular, free, open source alternative to Photoshop and available for Linux, Windows and Mac platforms.
The interface differs somewhat from Photoshop and it is easier to migrate from Adobe Photoshop (a licensed product) for Image Editing and Graphic Designing.

15. Opening a new file in GIMP
For creating a new file in GIMP click on file menu  click on new option
Short-cut for opening a new file in GIMP is ctrl + n
Every time we open a new file it opens it in new window but in Photoshop more than one file is opened in same window as a separate tab
Set the image size with respect to height and width option
Click on advance options of new file if need to set resolution, color space etc.
Click on ok to apply the settings for new file

The GIMP has a wide variety of tools that allows the user to perform various image editng tasks.
Most tools can be activated by clicking on an icon in the Toolbox.
Some, however (namely, the Color tools), are accessible only via the menus, either as Tools->Color Tools or as Layer->Colors.
Every tool, in fact, can be activated from the Tools menu; also, every tool can be activated from the keyboard using an accelerator key.
