Our materials are useful for all who would like to learn more about the Shape Your Life program, gendered violence, and the use of trauma-informed coaching. Module #1: Gender-Based Violence
Gender-Based Violence is a phenomenon deeply rooted in gender inequality, and continues to be one of the most notable human rights violations within all societies. Gender-based violence is violence directed against a person because of their gender. Both women and men experience gender-based violence but the majority of victims are women and girls. (citation needed here).

Global Picture Health Response: Link to resources in US and Canada: Questions to consider for open discussion, partner work or short answer response: Which data point on these info graphic’s impacts you the most? Why? What are the reasons most family violence does not get reported to the police? Provide students with website links and info graphics. (Allow 20 minutes to review links and graphics and 15 minutes for questions).

2) GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
Shape Me was created by Nari based on the words and experiences shared by the SYL participants. Topic ideas for the discussion or free write could be: What lyrics most impacted you? Why? What emotions did you feel while watching/listening? Throughout the SYL education steps/modules, there are various forms of expression to encourage healing... such as movement, art and music. What other forms of expression which may encourage healing can you think of? Invite students to watch and listen to the Shape Me- Nari video. After watching the video, students may have an open discussion regarding the thoughts that came up or students may engage in a free write. (Allow 10 minutes for the music video and discussion/free write)

2) GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
If you or someone you know in your school or community was experiencing violence.... Where could you go on your campus or school to seek help? Make a list of resources and share them with your classmates or friends. PSA: Create a public service announcement (video, tweet, picture) about your communities resources and SHARE with your twitter/facebook/instagram friends. PSA Example Ask students to think about violence within their own school or community. Students may answer questions in partners or short response. Students will then create a PSA and are invited to share with others. (Allow 20 minutes for questions 1 & 2 and 30 minutes to create the PSA)

Watch the video of Shape Your Life boxing. How was Deya able to keep her abuse hidden? Why does Deya think this kind of abuse can happen to anyone? What specific parts of Shape Your Life helped Deya? Invite students to watch video above and then answer the questions below. (Please allow 10 minutes to watch the video and answer the questions relating to it)

ACTIVITY: Use the info graphics in Step One to answer the following questions: What are the prevalence data for sexual violence in your community? Youth Trans people GLBTQI People with disabilities Minority groups Women Men How does your community data compare to the national data? Post your community location on the Shape Your Life learning map Students may then complete the activity which use's info graphics from step 1. (Please allow 20 minutes to answer the prevalence questions)

Module #2: Shape Your Life Boxing
Shape Your Life Boxing (SYL) is a free, trauma informed, non-contact boxing program for self-identified women who have experienced violence. The program operates as a partnership between Dr. Cathy van Ingen, Associate Professor in Kinesiology at Brock University and Joanne Green, Executive Director with Opportunity for Advancement.

Watch the video above (upper left) Follow the link: Answer the questions below: Why does Shape Your Life work? Why is regaining control of the body important to SYL boxing members? Many view boxing as a violent sport and wonder how boxing is effective for survivors of gendered violence. After completing the reading, what have you learned about trauma informed boxing and its impacts on SYL boxing members? Ask students to watch the video, follow the link and answer the questions below. (Allow 25 minutes)?

What do you think Sonnja means by "you need to physically get it out of your body... it lives there." Women who experience trauma are most likely offered "talk therapy" and medications to cope. Why might physical activity be helpful for survivors of trauma? What is the prevalence rate of violence in your region? SHARE this prevalence rate using the hashtag #TAKESHAPE Invite students to watch the video, follow the link and create/share a #TAKESHAPE. Example on next slide. (Allow 25 minutes?)

Explore the Shape Your Life boxing gym Explore SYL Gym 1: Explore SYL Gym 2: Is there anything that stands out to you when looking around the gym? Can you name three of the flags located on the ceiling of the SYL gym? You will notice a large sign that reads "Absolutely NO SPARRING." Why is this significant at the SYL gym? Have you been to a boxing gym before? How does SYL look similar or different from a gym you have visited? Encourage students to explore the SYL gym. Students may answer questions provided. (Allow 15 minutes?)

Module #3: Trauma-Informed Coaching
Trauma-Informed Coaching SYL uses a trauma-informed approach which takes into account the lasting effects trauma in the lives of participants. Trauma and violence-informed boxing is participant-centred and is built on knowledge about the impact of violence and trauma on people’s lives and health. We run SYL in a way that integrates this knowledge into all aspects of the boxing program in ways that foster participants’ safety, respect and empowerment.

Meet the SYL Coaches: **Is this the correct youtube video?** How are SYL boxing coaches different than a traditional boxing coach? Students can learn more about the SYL coaches by watching the video above. Students may think about how SYL coaches differ from traditional coaches. (Allow 10 minutes?)

Final Project! Now, use your own creativity to design a poster, poem, collage, power point, flyer, post card, video, skit, digital collage (or any other creative options you can think of!) to share what you have learned from completing SYL Education! Share your final project with teachers, peers, friends, family, colleagues, community and social media! Allow students to show off what they learned from completing SYL modules 1, 2 & 3! Depending on what students select, allow different times to complete… (20 to 60 minutes) Examples are provided in next slide.
