The Magic Eye A Lesson in Literature, Philosophy, and Life

2 First… What I’m Talking About
Article from bt.com “The Dress” they are referencing:

3 Yes. I brought a Magic Eye book so you can see if you’re able to do it.

4 Um… so what’s the point? How does this relate to literature, life, or philosophy?

5 Any guesses?

6 Here’s what I came up with:
Depth perception=ability to analyze. Some people struggle with it; others just “get it” immediately. In order to see the big picture, you have to get past the details while still taking them into account. You start really close (familiar) to something and zoom out to truly “get it” (read closely… analyze people/situations). If you don’t see the picture behind the graphic, you might think others are crazy when they tell you there’s a picture (“did the author really mean for all of that to be there or are all English teachers crazy?”). Those who don’t see the picture might be bored or annoyed. They might not ever experience the excitement or coolness of the 3-D image. It’s indescribable and non-transferable to others without the same experience (kinda like wisdom). With practice, you can train yourself! Once you’ve seen the image (motifs, symbols, themes), you can’t unsee it. But you can still focus on the small details (plot, setting, character development) at the same time. It’s pretty cool.
