4 STRATEGIC PLAN FY 2017-19 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE 1:
To support research that advances knowledge in areas of critical need to the OT profession, in particular, efforts that address the priorities identified by the Foundation. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE 2: To significantly increase the research workforce prepared to address questions of importance to occupational therapy.

8 Since 1965 AOTF has awarded over $3,000,000 towards research in occupational therapy! Starting in 2019, AOTF committed to fund $300,000 per year for 3 years for Health Services Research Grants. For six years running, AOTF has annually awarded $250,000 for Intervention Research Grants.

9 IRG OUTCOMES AOTF IRGs are unique seed-funding mechanisms that provide researchers the resources conduct early-stage research, gather preliminary data and build proof of concept. They are vital investments into the development of new research and future research capacity. 72% of IRG awards have gone to investigators who are less than 10 years post-completion of their doctoral degree 48% of IRG awards have gone to investigators under the age of 40 50% of IRG studies are published in non-OT journals 45% of IRG studies have obtained major, second-round funding, 5x-20x the AOTF grant!

The Academy of Research Established in 1983, the AOTF Academy of Research in Occupational Therapy recognizes individuals who have made exemplary and distinguished contributions toward the science of occupational therapy. The 74 inducted members represent outstanding levels of research excellence and impact on the profession. Mid-Career Research Excellence Award Early Career Research Excellence Award- new

Scholarships 50+ Scholarships that require only one application 25 state association scholarships Fellowships Nedra Gillette Nancy Talbot Kielhofner (coming 2020) St. Catherine Challenge 56 OT/OTA programs Over $60,000 raised for OT research AOTF is currently partnered with 23 state associations in offering scholarships – 21 of those are endowed. §  State associations can reach out to ot, ota, and otd programs in their state to promote the scholarships available in their state and nationally. §  States interested in endowing a scholarship must raise a baseline of $35K and establish an endowment agreement with the Foundation. §  States interested in endowing a scholarship may also want to partner with another state ot association – perhaps have multiple states endow a scholarship jointly and rotate awarding the scholarship. §  States could also study how other states raised money to endow their scholarship; how they continue to raise money. §  States could work with ot, ota, otd programs in their state and work with their alums to help raise money in establishing an endowed scholarship with AOTF. §  The Illinois Occupational Therapy Association is currently working on endowing a scholarship with AOTF.
