Protecting the wairau Local winegrowers established the winery in 1988 in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley with an aim to protect the history and habitat of the nearby Wairau River First winery in the world to be carbon neutral-certified in 2006 Wetland preservation program creates a habitat for local flora and wildlife like the southern bell frog featured on our label 292 acres of estate vineyards with experimental vines for R&D Other sustainability initiatives include the installation of 300 solar panels, the use of lighter weight bottles and cartons to reduce waste and carbon emissions, and refrigeration upgrades

Marlborough’s Wairau Valley
Marlborough is New Zealand’s largest wine producing region, 2/3 of New Zealand’s wine The Wairau Valley is the largest of Marlborough’s three sub regions The Wairau Valley follows the Wairau River from the Spenser Mountains in the west to the Pacific at Cloudy Bay Cool, dry and windy climate with a long, slow growing season and a wide diurnal range builds up an intensity of flavor and fruit purity Prime vineyards throughout the Wairau impart a spectrum of characters

vineyards VALLEY FLOOR SOUTHERN VALLEYS SEVENTEEN VALLEY We source from an array of vineyards and sub regions within the Wairau Valley to capture a spectrum of flavors from this cool climate Valley Floor: pungent, tropical flavors from an ancient flood plain’s alluvial soils Southern Valleys: rolling foothills made up of lower-fertility silt and clay soils give low yields, body and mouthfeel Seventeen Valley: sheltered and warm days and cooled by the sea at night, producing concentrated flavor, elegance and minerality

Winemaker Greg Lane A native of Adelaide, Australia, Greg honed his craft in Australia, the USA, Italy, France and two vintages in New Zealand. Greg was drawn to Marlborough’s pure, cool climate to take up the reins at Grove Mill in Marlborough in In 2018 Greg was named New Zealand Young Winemaker of the Year.

Fruit sourced primarily from lower Wairau vineyards including our flagship, Seventeen Valley Cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve primary fruit followed by three months of lees contact for texture and richness Aged in 5% French oak, 95% stainless steel Offers a complex array of Marlborough aromas and flavors.
