elementary school is my passion

halp ESID p much BUT there’s a general pattern
You may be assigned an elementary school… or 2… or 3… lol. YAY! A weekly dose of small children! They are super cute and generally wonderful to be around. Your elementary school may or may not be on your teiki (commuter pass) route. Make sure you get a schedule from your school (making your own schedule is generally a no-go bc it’s p much impossible to coordinate). 99% of the time this will happen, but on the very rare occasion it may not. Please SEEK ASSISTANCE if this is your situation.

Kyushoku Kyushoku is a mostly delicious thing (RIP me on liver days cry). You may be highly encouraged (read: told) to eat lunch with students in their classroom. You can do that but it’s not in our contract exactly bc lunch is technically a break time. (explain kyushoku experiences)

WHAT?! You have 出張 next week?!!
Shuccho WHAT?! You have 出張 next week?!! If you have an event that requires shuccho, then YOU CAN GO. It’s maybe a little uncomfortable to ask but you just have to suck it up and TALK TO YOUR TEACHERS and COORDINATE an alternative time for you to go to ES.
5
If you go to your ES’ undoukai or ongakukai, and you are expected to work from morning until the afternoon, YOU CAN GET DAIKYUU. If you have a nice Kyoto-sensei. Lol. If you go FOR FUNSIES then you don’t get daikyuu. (EXPERIENCES.) 代休

TEACHER SAYS “YOROSHIKU”
の TEAM TEACHING IS A THING. EXPECT IT. DON’T LET THEM MAKE YOU DO EVERYTHING.

From a (beautiful) Japanese Teacher
Speak English in class (outside English + Japanese is OK) Make an effort to greet/communicate with ALL teachers (secretary, v principal, principal, caretakers, HRTs, PTA members, music + art teachers, etc.) Communicate with students outside class. Be friendly and smile!

This is an example of something like your teachers. should
This is an example of something like your teachers *should* have for you. If they don’t, and they claim that they don’t know how to plan an English lesson, and also you want to be the MVP of all MVPs, here is a basic scaffold you can use to plan your lessons. BASIC B**** STYLE

WAX ON WAX OFF Parts of a good lesson Magical numbers = 3, 4, 12 Vocab
Grammar Small talk #calledout Magical numbers = 3, 4, 12 Parts of a good lesson: Vocab – getting the kids to be able to say it, getting the kids to be able to connect the English with their own understanding (through pictures, gestures, and/or Japanese) Grammar – getting the kids to be able to say it, getting the kids to connect the vocab they know with the structure, getting the kids to be able to (spontaneously) use the structure & communicate facts about themselves with it Small Talk – getting kids to listen for English words they know, getting kids into the mindset of guessing what a conversation is about (NOT JUST WROTE LEARNING), getting HRTs involved & demonstrating English in front of the kids (HELPS TO SET THE TONE) Calling out your students and/or your HRT – don’t be afraid to bring the HRTs attention to a kid who is not doing the right thing “are you ok?”, don’t be afraid to have a mini-meeting during class if you or your HRT has questions (the kids lit dgaf), don’t be afraid to pull the HRT aside after class and tell them what you need from them/ how they can do better next time (honestly, they need the feedback) Magical Numbers: 3- planned points per lesson 4- kids per group activity 12- no more than this for new words (6 if you’re adding new words to reviewed words)
