11 Delivering SQL Server as a Service
Windows Server Management Marketing 6/8/2019 Delivering SQL Server as a Service Standardized, automated deployment of virtualized SQL Servers Automation Through System Center Orchestrator, key processes associated with self-service selections are automated. Orchestrator runbooks help to connect different systems, and automate processes by passing data between systems. Orchestrator takes user input from Service Manager, and performs specific tasks in Virtual Machine Manager & SQL Server Orchestrator runbooks can also be used to automate key SQL Server tasks, such as patching, SQL maintenance tasks etc. © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. 12 Delivering SQL Server as a Service
Windows Server Management Marketing 6/8/2019 Delivering SQL Server as a Service Standardized, automated deployment of virtualized SQL Servers SQL Server Virtual Machine Deployment System Center Virtual Machine Manager provides IT with the ability to build SQL Server Service Templates, which accelerate deployment. Template contains a hardware profile guest OS customizations, and can include either a sysprepped SQL Server image or call scripts to deploy SQL Server unattended at deployment time. Scripts can even be used to deploy SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances. SQL Server VM templates have a number of granular configuration options, including support for SQL DAC packages. Orchestrator triggers Virtual Machine Manager to deploy new dedicated SQL Server VMs via runbooks, to host new DBs and instances. © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 13 Consuming SQL Server as a Service
Windows Server Management Marketing 6/8/2019 Consuming SQL Server as a Service Delegated access to SQL Server VMs via Self-Service Self-Service with App Controller With System Center App Controller, IT Admins can provide delegated access to the SQL DBAs through a rich, Silverlight portal. DBAs can only access resources within their designated clouds. Clouds have finite capacity, enabling IT to control resource consumption of the fabric. Within clouds, DBA can access respective VMs & Services & perform controlled actions. DBA can be delegated console access into the virtual machine, through the web browser, for granular administration © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 14 Delivering SQL Server as a Service
Windows Server Management Marketing 6/8/2019 Delivering SQL Server as a Service SQL Server via Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) With the Windows Azure Pack (WAP) Provides a rich, Azure-like experience for on-premises resources. IT can provide a pre-populated gallery of SQL Server-enabled VMRoles for self- service consumption. WAP integrates with other System Center investments, like VMM. DBA’s can subscribe to plans, which include access to certain VMRoles & available capacity for their usage. DBA’s also have access to performance metrics associated with their VM instances and can connect to their instances via console or RDP. © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. 15 Delivering SQL Server as a Service
Windows Server Management Marketing 6/8/2019 Delivering SQL Server as a Service Database as a Service with SQL Server With the Windows Azure Pack (WAP) Rapidly deploy new SQL Server databases directly onto a shared, on- premises SQL Server platform. IT deploys SQL Server backend with desired features, such as AlwaysOn. DBAs subscribe to plans, which expose SQL Server database deployment options for DBAs to consume. DBAs only need to focus on databases, rather than the platform, with quick & simple deployment. DBAs can connect directly to their new database with a simple connection string & credentials. © 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
