2 Monday October 29th WOW: Claim
Learning Targets (same as last week) I can cite strong and thorough evidence. I can determine a theme/central idea and analyze how it is developed. I can write an objective summary about the text. Activating Strategy (Chromebooks): Which is more important: to be better than yourself, or better than everyone else? Explain your answer. - 5 complete sentences Vocabulary: flashback, foreshadow, objective summary, rhetoric, plot, perspective, convey, central idea, emphasize, evidence, explicit, and theme. ISR (independent sustained reading): students will read from Newsela on the 8th/9th grade reading level. Complete Assessments - 9th = TU3WU9 - 8th = PE3M Whole Class reading 9TH = BY6 - Standards 1 and 2 - 9/10 - 8th = KE2 Read/annotate as a class - look at questions and answer choices first! 3 Tuesday October 30th - WOW: Claim
Learning Targets (same as last week) I can cite strong and thorough evidence. I can determine a theme/central idea and analyze how it is developed. I can write an objective summary about the text. Activating Strategy: In detail, write about someone who has impacted your life in a positive way. Be sure to describe how they have played a significant role in detail. - 5 /3 complete sentences Vocabulary: Create a wordle for each word. Whole Class reading - Standards 1 and 2 Read/annotate as a class and then break into groups (if students are behaving accordingly). In groups, students will complete the reading and annotating 9TH = BY6 - Standards 1 and 2 - 9/10 - 8th = KE2 Exit Ticket

Activating Strategy: Respond to one of the following: If you were a Halloween character (Jason, Mike, Freddy, IT, Ghostface, Leatherface, the Sanderson Sisters, etc.) which one would you be and why? Who do you think is the worst and if you know their backstory, do you think they have a reason to be so evil? 2nd Choice: Create a spooky short story using a creepy Halloween character. This must be 3 paragraphs, at least 3 to 5 sentences each. Vocabulary - 5 minute study session Literacy Assignment complete reading and answer essential questions as a class if time permits tomorrow you will work on the graphic organizers Exit ticket

Activating Strategy: Describe yourself using things from nature ONLY descriptions/lines (poem form). Vocabulary: Class review for points Learning Check: Complete reading the passages Students will complete the graphic organizers for standards 1 and 2 Exit Ticket

7 Friday November 2nd - WOW = Claim

Activating Strategy - (Chromebooks): 9th grade: Describe two things you learned in school this week and one self or one social reflection. - 5 complete sentences 8th grade: Describe one thing you learned in school this week and one self or one social reflection. - 3 sentences Vocabulary quiz Standards 1 and 2 assessment - COUNTS 3 TIMES! 9th = BY6 - 8th = KE2 Read Newsela and annotate if you finish early (choose from assigned material only).
