What is the Senior Experience (SE)?
A 25 Hour Community Service (service learning) project centered around a Career or Personal Focus Examples: Graffiti has been deteriorating our neighborhoods and the police guild has requested help. You apply for a grant and organize a group effort to remove the graffiti. (Career Focus: Law Enforcement) A family member has been struck with cancer and you lead a team to raise money for the Relay for Life (Personal Focus)

What are the parameters?
All SEs must be approved by your parents and advisor. Final approval will be made by the Project ME Evaluators. All projects must comply by Federal/State Law and by the policies and procedures of the Aberdeen School District AHS is not responsible for any cost incurred with your SE. Students are encouraged to seek grants or other funding. The PM Board has the right to reject any SE that is judged to be unsafe.

How to get your SE approved?
Step ONE: Choosing a SE You will want to choose a SE that fits into one of two categories: Career or Personal Focus Is there a learning stretch? Is this something that goes beyond what you already know how to do? Will it take you out of your comfort zone? How will your SE give back to the community? Does this experience look like it will reasonably fit the minimum required time frame of 25 hours (please refer to timeline)

Step TWO: Choosing a Mentor A mentor is “a wise and trusted counselor or guide”. He/she must be a practicing professional or someone well versed in the field. A mentor can NOT be… A recent graduate -within 5 years A parent A fellow student A teacher (must have written approval from teacher)

Step THREE: Submit Required Documentation Submit a Proposal Letter. Must include Declaration of focus Learning Stretch Identification of problem or need based on research Action Plan giving back to community Mentor/Parent Consent Form Paperwork must be submitted to Advisor for initial approval

October 14th Fall LATE Proposal Submission- incur additional 10 hours December 17th Senior Boards Round 1 March 23rd & 24th Senior Boards Round 2 May 12th & 13th

Can I work with another student? Yes. Separate paperwork must be submitted. What happens if I don’t meet my deadlines? You jeopardize your graduation What if I decide I do not want to continue with my approved Senior Experience? You have to complete the entire approval process again.
