Student: Michael Morel Class: ET 493 Advisor: Dr. Rana Mitra May 8, 2015

2 Background Repairing at Home Hydraulic Floorjack New Technology

3 Pneumatic Airbag Jack What is it? Study, analyze, and further develop
Design a safety catch system

4 Examples ** Note, no safety system in case of bag failure

5 Design Approach Safety ( Safety Factor = 1.25) Stability
Maneuverability Usability

6 Design ** Design shown with optional liftpad

7 Material Choice Airbag : Airlift Loadlifter 5000 Safety Locking Pin
- 8” Diameter, Inflation range 2.8” – 12.5” Safety Locking Pin - .75” 304 Stainless Steel - Double Shear Force

8 Material Choice Cont. Safety Columns
- A513 Carbon Steel, 6”-8” Square Tube with .25” wall - 3 Set Heights Base Plate - ASTM A527/A653 Galvanized Steel Sheet - 24” L x 14” W x .25” T

9 Price List Air Lift Loadlifter 5000 Air Bag..……………………………………………...$85.59 A513 Steel Safety Columns…………………………….$14.42 T304 Stainless Steel Round Bar…………………………………….$9.00 ASTM A527/A653 Galvanized Sheet…………………………$51.40 Brass Air Pressure Valve (Inlet/Outlet/Relief)……………………………..…...$13.98 Grey Rubber Caster Wheels (80 pound capacity)…………………...………2 x $4.47 Handle(Hot Rolled Plain Steel 3’ x .75”)…………….…………………………$9.97 Air Line Tubing (.25”)…………………………………………………………...$0.00 Brass Air Line Inlet/Outlet Fittings (.25”)………………....Male: $1.99..Female $2.19 Miscellaneous…………………………………………………………………….TBD Machining / Labor……………………………………………………………......TBD Total Material Cost: $197.48 ** As of right now, the only machining / labor that will be needed is in the making of the stainless steel pin, and welding the columns to the base plate. The rest of the assembly will be completed by myself. With the design subject to change, the required machining / labor may change as well.

10 Deliverables (Spring 2015)
Design a working safety catch system  Research and select the proper material(s) to be used in new design  Perform necessary calculations to ensure the material selected is suitable for the application  - Apply: Statics, Strength of Materials, Mechanical Design Create a full graphic in SolidWorks  Build a material list (including costs) 

11 Future Plans (Fall 2015) Review Order Parts Assemble Test

12 Questions, Comments, etc.?
