1 Baptism in the Holy Spirit I can’t find this anywhere in the Bible!

2 “You will be Baptized in the Holy Spirit”
It’s a Verb, not a Noun A Dynamic Experience A Divine Encounter

3 Restricted to Special People

4 The covenant with Abraham
Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family And from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.  I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Gen. 12:1-3

5 What blessings did God promise to Everyone through Abraham?
And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” Gal. 3:8 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us ... that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in the Messiah Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Gal. 3:13-14

6 Redemption and a Double Baptism
“... I do not want you to be unaware brothers that our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,  all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea” 1Cor. 10:1-2 “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” 1Cor. 12:13

7 Jesus is our Pattern

8 Jesus is our Pattern  When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened.   And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” Luke 3:21-22

9 Jesus is the Saviour and the Source
“... John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”” John 1:29  ”...He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” John 1:33-34

10 The prophetic significance of Succoth
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.  He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39

11 The prophetic significance of Succoth
“... they all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was the Messiah.” 1Cor. 10:4

12 Passover and Pentecost revealed in the Cross
”But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.  But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.   And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.  For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.”” John 19:33-36

13 “Free” Water at Enormous Cost
David said, “Far be it from me, O my God, that I should do this! Shall I drink the blood of these men who have put their lives in jeopardy? For at the risk of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. 1Chron. 11:19 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” John 19:28

14 Is there a Correct Procedure?
a) New Birth - Water Baptism - Spirit Baptism “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

15 a) New Birth – Water Baptism – Spirit Baptism
“... Paul ... came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples  he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”So they said, “Into John’s baptism.” Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.” Acts 19:1-6

16 b) New Birth/Spirit Baptism – Water Baptism
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.  And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.  For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,  “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.” Acts 10:44-48

17 c) New Birth - Spirit Baptism - Water Baptism
And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. Acts 9:17

18 Water is a symbol of the Spirit - Immersed
“ ... wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;  for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized (immersed) with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5

19 Water is a symbol of the Spirit - Drenched
”Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He (Jesus) poured out this which you now see and hear.” Acts 2:33

20 Water is a symbol of the Spirit - Filled
Jesus said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,  but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:13-14

21 A New Way of Living  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but go on being filled with the Spirit,  speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,  giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  submitting to one another in the fear of God. Eph. 5:18-21

22 ... I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,  from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,  that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,  may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height - to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph. 3:14-19

23 What is it for? 1) Seal of Sonship
“... you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” Rom. 8:15-16

24 What is it for? 2) Power to be witnesses
“ ... wait for the Promise of the Father ... you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit ... you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:4-8

25 What is it for? 3) Guarantee of Inheritance
“ ... in Christ also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.” Eph. 1:13-14 “ ... hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Rom. 5:5

26 Receiving the Holy Spirit
So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:21-22 “ ... you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” Acts 1:8

27 New Birth - You receive everything
Baptised in the Spirit - you receive more in the realm of experience

28 Ask - Believe - Receive  Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24  If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” Luke 11:13 Did you receive the Spirit by doing the works of the law or by believing what you heard? Gal. 3:2
