Daily Agenda 1-7-13 Biology Objective: To become aware of the important scientist of cellular biology; understand what DNA stands for, its functions and its structure, understand the base pairing rules. 1.Important Scientists: Research important scientists and discover their contributions to science. ( after instructions: 25 minutes) Daily grade 1 – you may use your device OR the biology book 2.Review scientist sheet ( 5 -10 minutes) 3.Power-point: DNA Notes ( 10 min) – journal notes- always checked with bell work 4. Door Ticket: Base Pairing practice. Complete the complementary strand of the DNA. – until bell sounds, must completed to exit. – daily grade 2 Staple both the scientist sheet and the base pairing sheet together. The scientist sheet will be returned tomorrow to include in your notes! Reminders: 1.Christmas Packet due tomorrow, no exceptions ( for page one, Google the answers) 2.Cell Respiration packet: Have completed or graded as is by Wednesday, Jan. 9 th. 3.People who missed the test on 12/21 must stay after tomorrow, 1-10 with Mrs. Wesco to makeup that exam. If exam is not made up, a zero grade is awarded. Homework: Have vocabulary completed by Thursday: 1/10/11. Checked at the start of class. ( see 2nd slide of this power-point)

Important Scientist Theodor Schwann Born: 1810 Died: 1882 Contributed to the cell theory ( stated all living things consist of cells); studied animal cells, in particular the nervous system ( nerve cells are called Schwann cells) James Watson ( 1928- ) Francis Crick ( 1916-2004) Both of these gentleman discovered that DNA was two-stranded ( double helix)

1-9-13 Biology Objective: To become aware of the important scientist of cellular biology; understand what DNA stands for, its functions and its structure, understand the base pairing rules. 1.Quick Write ( 5-10 min). After watching the short video clip, describe how Watson and Crick came about discovering the structure of DNA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuxDFeeN QTE 2. After your short write, complete the Chapter 12, section 2 review ( pg.299) questions 1-5. Write out the question, then answer in complete sentences. 3. Once you have finished your section review, make sure your vocab is complete. This was on Mondays slide as well as on the website. Those terms will be checked tomorrow at the beginning of class. Reminders: Tomorrow is the last day to turn in your cell respiration booklet completed. Please check the lab table to see if you are a person whose booklet was incomplete. Students who were absent need to stay after school on Thursday to make up their exam. ( if you do not show, a parent contact will be made!) Retest for Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration will be this Friday in Class! Review for Formatives: 1/14-1/15 of next week. Lab Tomorrow!!

Chemistry: You will go to the library and complete your Chemistry web quest. It is due today! After you have completed your web quest, work on completing yesterdays assignment : Types of Reactions. It is due today!

( students who have not took the original test must take that one, NO NOTES OR BOOK!) 2.Review Packet One: Start working on completing this using your book and notes. ASK questions/ask for help!!! 3.Start studying for formative Assessments Objective: Retest over chapter 8 and 9 ( cellular processes); review for formative assessment ( enzymes and cell structure and function) Reminders: Formative assessment reviews next Monday and Tuesday.
