Groups: New groups! Find two new partners. Chart: Please write your name & # on chart Recorders will be turned on by the professor. Do not touch them, please! 4. Peer Review Circles
25
Peer Review Circles for essays Do you have: Two copies of your draft?
A copy of your PRC question sheet? (handout)
26
Preparation Step1: Get into groups
Note if you have extra people, make groups of 4, but that group’s timing will be ‘off’
27
Preparation, step 2: Prepare your reader
Take out your copy of the PRC sheet, and on your own sheet: Highlight or circle several questions that you want the reader to give you specific feedback on. You may also write one or two questions for the reader to think about: For example: “Is my second body paragraph too long?” Or: “Can you suggest something to make paragraph 3 better?” Etc.
28
Preparation part 3: Reading and Thinking (1’ prep + 4’ reading per paper) [9’ total]
Label your essay copies with your letter, A, B, or C. Pass a copy of your essay to each partner. Give your PRC sheet to the ‘main reader’ [C passes to A & B, etc.] Read (skim) BOTH your partners’ papers quietly For one partner, make some notes on their PRC sheet. Re-read the paper, paying special attention to the THESIS: Is there a TOPIC + PLAN/ PREVIEW/MAP (A+B+C) present? Is it one sentence? Is it a statement and not a question? If not, write one for them Prepare to speak…

Round 4 - Reflection Students write individually for about 5 minutes about what their peers said and what they learned from reading their peers’ papers. After writing individually, briefly share with your peers what your thoughts were on the PRCs process. Make notes on peers’ comments if you wish.
41
Revising and editing Revise for unity (all parts relate to the main idea) Revise for adequate support (details support main idea; avoid circular reasoning) Revise for coherence (ideas flow smoothly and logically; use transition expressions) Revise for style (sentences are varied and interesting; use exact language and parallel structure) Edit for technical errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation, and mechanics; set aside your draft for a day or two; keep a list of your common errors in a grammar log – be are of and try not to repeat them in future writing)
