2 Young Marine Map & Compass Ribbon
Awarded to a Young Marine that demonstrates knowledge on the proper use of map and compass as described in Young Marines Junior Guidebook YM must hold the minimum rank of YM/LCpl Plot 5 points on the map Successfully navigate to 3 points, using 3 of the 5 points on the map OR Successfully complete one card of the 100’ “Rope Course” Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

3 Young Marine Land Navigation Ribbon
Awarded to a Young Marine that demonstrates knowledge on the proper use of map and compass as described in Young Marines Senior Guidebook YM must have earned the Map & Compass Ribbon Hold the minimum rank of YM/Sgt Plot 5 points on a map and plan your legs from point 1 to each point in sequence to point 5 Successfully navigate, in sequence, to all 5 points on the map Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

4 Young Marine Orienteering Ribbon
Awarded to Young Marines who complete an individual orienteering competition and lead a team through an orienteering course YM must have earned the Map & Compass and Land Navigation Ribbons Hold the minimum rank of YM/Sgt Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

5 Young Marine Conservation Ribbon
Awarded to Young Marines who exhibits a strong interest in conservation through personal research and observation, oral and written communication, and daily practice Lowest Issuing Authority - Regimental Commander Young Marine must complete three requirements One mandatory plus two additional Plus Written composition of no less than 500 words that answer four specific questions All steps or requirements must be submitted to and approved by UC prior to submission to Regimental Commander Lowest Issuing Authority: Regiment

6 Young Marine Marksmanship Ribbon
Awarded to a Young Marine who successfully completes the course of instruction and instructed by a Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) Coach, NRA marksmanship instructor, and/or a qualified subject matter expert as outlined in the Marksmanship Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Ribbon is awarded for completing the course of instruction, not for firing the firearm Devices may be earned for practical shooting of the firearm Devices indicate the level at which the Young Marine shot Silver “M” – Unit, Bronze Palm – Battalion, Silver Palm – Regiment, Gold Palm – Division, Gold Frame – Authorized National Event Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

Awarded to a Young Marine unit for outstanding, distinguished service or performance of duty Awarded to the National Unit of the Year Lowest Issuing Authority: NED

8 Young Marine Unit Commendation
Awarded to a Young Marine unit that distinguishes itself by outstanding deeds of service to its country, state, and city Awarded to the Division and Regiment Unit of the Year Lowest Issuing Authority: Regiment Add Devices

9 Young Marine Battalion Unit of the Year Ribbon
Awarded to a Young Marine who are members of the unit that is selected as the Battalion Unit of the Year Lowest Issuing Authority: Battalion

10 Young Marine Achievement Ribbon
Awarded to a Young Marine for a single act of meritorious service or achievement not sufficient to warrant the Commendation of Merit, for service to the Young Marines Program. Impact award! For the Young Marine that does something awesome. Sustained high 1st class PFT scores, leadership/mentorship that is beyond their age, anything noteworthy. Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

Submission Process YM Personal Award Recommendation Form Found in the Young Marine’s Library in the “Awards” Folder Individual recommending the award fills out form Form is routed, as an attachment, via to through the Chain of Command to the respective and/or appropriate awarding authority Awarding authority will process the form, notify the issuing authority of the result, and make award entry in the Young Marine’s record book as required

17 Unit Young Marine of the Year
Unit YMOY selection board process begins in September and concludes with finalizing the report in the database by October 10th. All Young Marine units shall have a Unit Young Marine of the Year. Requirements (Unit): > Unit board consists of UC, XO, and one additional AV (minimum). The senior YM of the unit may be a member of the board, if the UC desires, and that YM is not a candidate for Unit YMOY. > One guest member may be included (i.e., local council member, MCL Detachment Commandant, host facility commander, mayor, CEO of business that supports unit, etc.). > Each member of the board shall ask each Young Marine appearing before the board two questions. Each Young Marine presenting themselves before the board shall receive the same questions, tasks, and examinations in the same order. Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

18 Unit Young Marine of the Year
Eligibility: > All YMs in unit with minimum one (1) year in Young Marines program since date of recruit graduation – date of rank to YM-Private. Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

19 Battalion Young Marine of the Year
Battalion YMOY selection board process begins in October and concludes with finalizing the report in the database by October 31st. All Young Marine Battalions shall have a Battalion Young Marine of the Year. Requirements: > Battalion selection board consists of the Battalion Commander and all Unit Commanders in the Battalion (XO may be substituted if UC unavailable). Outgoing Battalion YMOY may also be a member of the board if Battalion Commander desires. One guest member may be included (i.e., local council member, mayor, etc.). > Each member of the board shall ask each Young Marine appearing before the board two questions. Each Young Marine presenting themselves before the board shall receive the same questions, tasks, and examinations in the same order. Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

20 Battalion Young Marine of the Year
Eligibility: > All Junior Leadership School (JLS) graduates that have minimum 24 months in program since date of recruit graduation – date of rank to YM-Private) > RRW participation during previous year (yes, YM’s unit must have participated in RRW) > Minimum Rank – YM Corporal > Minimum Age 11 as of 31 December, previous year of year of selection Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

21 Regiment Young Marine of the Year
Regiment YMOY selection board process begins in November and concludes with finalizing the report in the database by November 15th. All Young Marine Regiments shall have a Regiment Young Marine of the Year. Requirements: > Regiment selection board consists of the Regiment Commander and all Battalion Commanders (XO may be substituted if BC unavailable). Outgoing Regiment YMOY may also be a member of the board if Regiment Commander desires. One guest member may be included (i.e., local council member, mayor, etc.). > Each member of the board shall ask each Young Marine appearing before the board two questions. Each Young Marine presenting themselves before the board shall receive the same questions, tasks, and examinations in the same order. Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

22 Division Young Marine of the Year
Division YMOY selection board process begins in November and Headquarters Young Marines concludes with finalizing the report in the database no later than 21 December. All qualified candidates for Division YMOY consideration should appear before the Division YMOY selection board. The selected YMOY’s package will be mailed to Headquarters Young Marines, ATTN: Deputy Director. Requirements > Division selection board consists of Division, Assistant Division, and Regiment Commanders (XO may be substituted if RC unavailable). Outgoing Division YMOY may also be a member if the board if Division Commander desires. One guest member may be included (i.e., local council member, mayor, etc.). > Each member of the board shall ask each Young Marine appearing before the board two questions. Each Young Marine presenting themselves before the board shall receive the same questions, tasks, and examinations in the same order. Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander

23 Division Young Marine of the Year
Eligibility: > All Advance Leadership School (ALS) graduates > Earned Attendance ribbon > Earned Community Service ribbon (3rd Award) > Earned Academic Achievement ribbon within past two years > Project Alert certified > RRW participation in previous year > Minimum rank – YM-GySgt > Minimum age 14 as of 31 December, previous year of year selected Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander
