2. Who We Are…
History
The Capital District Foundation was organized in 1972.
The first President was George W. Bogikes.
Though there were 17 divisions in the district not all of the divisions had representation.

Club Giving is a minimum of $3 per member based on the October 1 membership roster. This program should not be confused with the annual Kiwanis Children Fund. 11. What we do…
The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation works in partnership with Capital District Kiwanis International to make a difference in the life of a child.
This is done by:
grants given to Kiwanis clubs for community service projects
donations given to eight Pediatric Trauma Centers
scholarships awarded annually
support funding for CKI
support funding for Key Leader
Teenager of the Year $2,500 scholarship

12. Club Grants…
Projects that relate to the purpose and mission of the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation will be accorded top priority by the Foundation Board of Trustees.
Commitments are made for one year only. Funds will not be granted to the same club or individual for a project for more than three consecutive years.
Grant requests for the funding cycles are to be received by the Executive Secretary of the District Foundation by the following deadline dates:
Cycle I: Postmarked/ ed by September 10th, Cycle II: Postmarked by March 15th
A review committee will be appointed by the Foundation President and will make recommendations to the overall Board of Trustees at the fall (November) and spring (May) meetings of the Foundation Board.
Notification of the decisions by the Board of Trustees will be mailed no later than December 1st for Cycle I and June 1st for Cycle II.
The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation will not consider Grant applications for less than $100 or more than $5000. Grants will only be considered twice a year as noted above.

13. Pediatric Trauma Centers…
Each year funding for Pediatric Trauma Hospitals is
provided by:
100% of the Ducky Derby, Caring Corner & shirt sales proceeds.
50% of the $3 per club member.
Additional contributions by clubs and individuals.
It was in the administrative year that CDKF made the first gift to a Children’s Pediatric Center of $3,500 to Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Total donated to the Pediatric Trauma Hospitals through 9/30/2017 was $ 691,510

15. Teenager of the Year (TOY)…
Local clubs of Kiwanis International are seeking nominations for Teenager of the Year. This award is given in recognition to deserving teenagers for their academic achievements, citizenship, service to their school and community, growth and responsibility in his/her family unit, character and leadership performance. If nominee continues through competition process on the club, division and district levels, and the finalist will win $2,500 cash and trip with their parents/guardians to the Kiwanis District Convention, August 2018 in Reston.

16. Turner Scholarships…
The Robert H. Turner, Jr. Scholarships are awarded annually at the Capital District Key Club Convention to Key Club Members who have exemplified to the highest degree the basic principles of Key Club - caring and service - in their home, school, and community. The recipients shall be of high moral character and should have achieved excellence in all their endeavors. The Robert H. Turner, Jr. Scholarships Program is funded by the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation as part of its commitment to supporting the Service Leadership Programs in the Capital District.

17. Youth Out Reach…
Clubs that do not sponsor a Service Leadership Program (K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club or CKI) can help these organizations financially with a contribution of $100 each year.

18. How You Can Help… Individual Giving Club Giving
Donate today and help a child in the Capital District. Thousands of children have been positively impacted by donations made to the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation over the past forty five years.
Club Giving

19. Foundation Life Membership
Available to all members of the Kiwanis Family with a $150 contribution. A Life Membership can be sponsored by a Kiwanian, a Kiwanis Club, a spouse or friend of a Kiwanian. The Kiwanian can be an individual, past officer or outstanding member of the Club, Division, or District. The Kiwanian receives a certificate and a Life Member circle for your K pin.
Funds derived from Life Memberships are invested. Only the interest earned is used for Foundation programs. Therefore, your one-time contribution continues to support the Foundation activities year after year.

20. Tablet of Honor Founder’s Society
Honor an individual or Kiwanian with a $1,000 contribution.. The tablet can be sponsored by a Kiwanian, a Kiwanis Club, a spouse or friend. The recipient receives a certificate and Tablet of Honor Plaque. 
Funds derived from the Tablet of Honor are invested. Only the interest earned is used for Foundation programs.
Founder’s Society
The Founder's Society is an endowment fund within the Capital District Kiwanis Foundation (CDKF) created to benefit the Sponsored Leadership Programs (District CKI, Key Club, Builders, K-Kids). A tax-deductible contribution of $1,000 (half will be used for SLP, the other half for endowment) can be made to the CDFK designated for the Founder's Society. This can be done several ways: by check; gift of appreciated stocks or other financial investments assets, or a bequest in a Will, Trust or Estate Plan.
A contributor receives a Founder's Society Neck Medallion Ribbon, Engraved Shadow Box Display Case, and a lapel Founder's Society pin.

21. Fundraising… Caring Corner Ducky Derby
We would not be able to help as many as we do without the individuals
who participate in our annual fundraisers. Caring Corner consists of
theme baskets donated by the Directors of the Foundation, clubs and
individual Kiwanis members. All proceeds are donated to the eight
Pediatric Trauma Hospitals.
T-shirts
Capital District Kiwanis Foundation T-Shirts are also available. All
proceeds support the CDKF. Go to the CDKF website to order shirts, jackets,
etc. for all Kiwanis family including Builders Club, Key Club, CKI.
Ducky Derby
Ducky Derby tickets are sold by Capital District Kiwanis Clubs with the
Drawing on Saturday at the District Convention. Money prizes and gift
certificates are awarded to the winning duck recipients. All proceeds are
donated to the eight Pediatric Trauma Hospitals serving the
Capital District.
