3 We wear poppies as they were one of the first flowers to bloom on the battle fields of Flanders during World War 1. Their bright red colour symbolised the blood shed in the horrific conflict, but also the hope of new life. The poppy became the symbol of Remembrance day.

4 The Armistice of 1918 (WWW1 1914-18)
Armistice Day, 11 November 1918, marked the end of World War 1. After the Second World War, Armistice Day became Remembrance Day, a time to commemorate war dead from all conflicts. Every year, at 11am on the 11 November, Australians pause for one minute’s silence to remember all who died or suffered for Australia's cause in wars and armed conflicts. Over 8 million soldiers died in World War 1, and another 21 million were injured.  65 million soldiers were mobilized during the war.
