49% reported having always lived in North Tulsa, with 88% of all respondents living in Comanche Park for 5 years or less

Crime and more opportunities for kids were top items listed for what people want to see changed most about Comanche Park
Transportation was listed as the primary barrier impacting daily life
61% reported not having a drivable car
53% stated transportation as barrier to social services
60% stated transportation as barrier to financial services
81% stated transportation as barrier to obtaining and keeping employment
59% stated transportation as barrier to accessing healthcare
51% stated transportation as reason for not attending meetings or events at schools
40% stated transportation as reason for middle schoolers not taking part in after-school programming
New Parks, Grocery Store, Updated Street and Lighting Improvements, and Play Areas were listed as the Most Important Neighborhood Improvements.

36% of respondents stated public transportation was their primary mode of transportation, followed by 29% driving own car, and 25% walking
65% stated the Dollar Store was where they currently get food, followed by Walmart (55%) and Family Dollar (54%)
78% stated they would prefer to get their groceries from a Big Box Store (Reasor’s/Sprouts), followed by a Warehouse-type Store (Walmart, Sam’s) (71%)
92% stated they currently utilize SNAP benefits, with 40% utilizing clothing banks
49% stated they do not utilize any financial resource (bank, credit union, payday, credit repair)
58% described their health/well-being as Good or Better
59% reporting having medical insurance
43% reporting having a physical or mental disability or both

65% reported having a regular doctor or primary care physician
Of those with kids in the home, 67% reported that their kid’s have a regular doctor or pediatrician
59% reported being aware of medical services located in the neighborhood, with 38% responding with “Don’t Know” when asked to describe quality of those medical services
33% reported going to Primary Care doctor when sick, followed very closely by going to the Emergency Room (32%) and Urgent Care (18%)
In the event of medical concern, respondents stated they first called 911 (61%), followed by a Family Member (23%)
63% of respondents stated they went to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care in the past year
Vision Care (76%), Dental Care (75%), and Urgent Care/Walk-in Clinic (63%) were top selected items as most needed medical services within the community
Transportation (59%), followed by Cost (55%) were top selected barriers to accessing healthcare

Hearing gun shots (82%), followed by teenage fighting (81%) were top selected crimes witnessed by respondents
62% feel safe walking in the neighborhood during the day, with only 34% feeling safe walking in the neighborhood at night
55% stated they do not feel comfortable taking children to play at a park in the neighborhood
Additional Street Lighting (51%), followed by Youth and Crime prevention programs (49%) were top selected strategies in making the neighborhood safer

City of Tulsa 2018 Retail and Marketing Study
The trade area that include the 36th Street North Corridor contains 17,343 people.
Median income of the trade area is $27,756 (accounting for 64% of the median for all of Tulsa), and estimating up to 13% unemployment
2774 jobs currently exist within the trade area
There are 5 dollar stores located in or adjacent to the trade area, and no grocery stores. A grocery is planned for Pine and Peoria, though no open date has been announced

Calls to DVIS are two and a half times more likely to come from North Tulsa than from other parts of the city
Residents of North Tulsa are over twice as likely to utilize an Emergency Room

North Tulsans smoke at a higher rate

2018 Health Disparities and Social Determinants of Health Report (OSU Extension)
North Tulsans report higher rates of individuals with fair or poor overall health, who are regularly stressed at work and regularly stressed at home
North Tulsa scored below average on 8 or 10 health behaviors, including average weekly sugary drink consumption, no physical activity in the past month, meeting aerobic activity recommendations, access to indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, percentage of bike riders, percentage of walkers and runners, and average monthly days walking
North Tulsa was above average in alcohol dependency, drug dependency, tobacco use, and current smokers
North Tulsa was below average in have access to affordable fresh fruit and vegetables, and being able to find a safe space to exercise
North Tulsa was below average with Lack of access to healthcare, difficulty in accessing services, lack of primary care doctor, and lack of routine teeth cleaning within the past year
North Tulsa was below county average in being satisfied with housing options and being able to consistently pay household bills.
North Tulsa faces a threat to public health through food insecurity, with reported worries about running out of food and not having enough money to buy food
