Steps to Apply to College
Update your EDP Complete college application online Secondary School Report (if required) Send ACT and/or SAT scores to each school that you apply Request a transcript through Parchment

Step One – Update Your EDP
Mrs. Schuetz has given you instructions for updating your EDP including your username and password Make sure to update: Goals Community Service Work Experience Extra Curricular Activities Leadership Experiences Give a copy of your EDP resume to everyone you ask to write you a letter of recommendation Your request for a transcript and/or secondary school report can only be sent through Parchment AFTER you turn in your SIGNED EDP!

Step Two – Complete Applications
Applications can be completed online Apply early (NO later than Thanksgiving)! U of M – Ann Arbor prefers applications by Nov. 1st Early Decision for MSU is usually October 1st Complete essays (if required) Get letter(s) of recommendation (if required) See page 7 of Senior Packet for more details on letters of recommendation See pages 5-6 of Senior Packet for more details on completing applications

Step Three – Secondary School Report (SSR)
Give your counselor the Secondary School Report (if required) for each school Some schools require an electronic recommendation from your counselor (schools that use the Common Application, for example) Your counselor will complete the Secondary School Report page within five business days once you have turned in everything she needs (see the College Application Checklist on page 10 of your Senior Packet) Make sure to WAIVE YOUR RIGHTS to view the recommendation as counselors will only complete recommendations for students who have waived their rights to view

Step Four – Send Your Official Test Scores to Colleges
Farmington Public Schools no longer sends National Test Center ACT or SAT scores If you did not request the testing company to send scores when you took the test: Go to to send ACT scores Go to to send SAT scores You can also register to retake ACT/SAT on these sites to improve your scores (see the green handout: Michigan College Minimum Requirements given with your Senior Packet for individual schools’ score recommendations)

Step Five – Request Transcripts through Parchment
We send transcripts electronically using Parchment You must turn in your updated and signed EDP before we will send transcripts to a college (see step 1) Go to the Farmington High School website to find the Parchment link and set up an account using your full legal name Register with an address that you check often Parchment may charge a small fee for each transcript, depending on where you apply You will be able to log in and see when your transcript was sent and when the college downloaded it

Step Five – Request Transcripts through Parchment (continued)
Parchment registration is mandatory!! Your application will not be complete unless you request your transcript through Parchment If you’re applying using the Common Application, you must still request a transcript through Parchment for each school to which you apply Use Parchment to request transcripts mid-year and after you graduate See page 9 of your Senior Packet and the blue Quick Start Guide handout for more details on Parchment

Step Six – WAIT!! Once you have completed Steps 1-5, schools will contact you Some schools take 2-3 months to give a response – Be patient APPLY EARLY !!!! Have we said that before? The longer you wait to apply, the longer you’ll wait to get a response

While You’re Waiting For a Response
Read your ENTIRE senior packet Register for NCAA if you plan to play college sports ( ) Start applying for Financial Aid and Scholarships See pages 3-4 and 8 of your Senior Packet for more details Check the Counseling Office for the monthly scholarship bulletin Males must register for selective service by 18th birthday

While You’re Waiting For a Response (continued)
Fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) after October 1st but before March 1st (by Valentine’s Day is best) If you are taking a correspondence course, all of your exams must be sent by April 1st to ensure the credit will be on your transcript in time for graduation Transcripts for NCAA can be requested through Parchment

Remember to Finish the Race
Universities can revoke admission if they see a downward trend in senior grades We will not be making any schedule changes for seniors without written permission from the colleges to which they have applied Keep up the hard work that made you eligible for a university in the first place You can do it!
