1 Success Story on Open Access Power Trading Crisis into opportunity
Alternative Thinking Sustainability Conference – AD 24-Jun-2013 Success Story on Open Access Power Trading Crisis into opportunity

2 Presentation Flow Quick glance of our Energy performance
Power crisis in AP Effect of power crisis Alternatives explored F'14 Challenges & Strategy Aspiration

3 Results - Power 48 % Reduction 56 % 17 % 95 % 97%

4 Results - LPG 52 % Reduction 16 % 96% 83 % Raise

5 Results

6 Results – GHG Emissions
25 % 54 % 14 % 25 % Towards carbon neutral plant

7 National Energy Conservation Awards

8 Presidents Delight

9 Restriction & Control (R & C) measures by Govt.
Power Crisis in AP Restriction & Control (R & C) measures by Govt. Huge gap between Demand & Supply (80 MU - 40 %)

10 Type of power restriction
Power crisis in plant S. No Type of power restriction Situation 1 Power restriction Peak & Non peak restriction Peak unit cost raised by 1 Rupee 2 1 power holiday in a week 3 2 Power holidays in a week 4 3 power holidays in a week Shifting Weekly off from Sunday to Friday to avoid one power holiday Running the plant by economies of production

11 Power cost in Variable cost
ZHB Plant Power Crisis & Power Holidays Energy Cost 78 % of plant Variable cost

12 Power crisis Effect HSD Consumption for DG Sets in F’13 :1002 KL
Effect on Sector Specific Diesel consumption

13 Options Explored to avoid DG usage
Expensive Power by APCPDCL Alternative sources of Energy Open Access Bi lateral – Third Party agreement Very Expensive Cons’t Qty & Mandatory 24 Hrs. procurement Power Trading Bio Mass

14 What is Open Access (OA)
Third Party power with Open Access Purchase: Power purchase by consumers directly from the open market (IEX / PXIL) using the available grid / network IEX will inject power to available grid as per our bid which in turn drawl at our end. Need to obtain NOC from APTRANSCO Need to become IEX member / IEX member client with necessary agreements . Replace the existing energy meters with ABT meters & 0.2 S class CT/PT

15 OA - Pros & Cons Merits Demerits Uninterrupted supply of power
Power Purchase on hourly basis as per our requirement (Min 100 Kwh , Max - CMD) Power is available even during regular power holidays from APCPDCL Cheaper than DG Power / Mostly cheaper than APCPDCL . HSD consumption is reduced. Demerits Power tariff is variable in nature Need to pay as per our bid quantity even grid failure or less consumption than bid qty.

16 Phase I : Replacement of DG Power with OA Power
Open Access – Benefits Phase I : Replacement of DG Power with OA Power 58 % * 9 % DG due to APCPDCL substation shut down for up gradation (7 days )

17 Open Access - Benefits Rs. 250 Lakhs
Phase 2: Tapping Low unit cost during non peak hrs Open Access Non peak unit cost less than APCPDCL Cost As low as 2 Rs. / Unit Expected annual savings Rs. 250 Lakhs One tine Expenditure Rs. 6.5 Lakhs

18 Fuel Surcharge Adjustment
F-14 Challenges Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) 40% 21% 22%

19 F-14 strategy Replacement of DG & Non peak Power with Open Access Power Expected annual savings Rs. 400 Lakhs Enhancing CMD from 2750 to 3250 KVA Reduction of Specific Energy Consumption by 12.5 % (5X)

20 Aspiration – Zhb plant To Convert offices & buildings into Green by 2016. 20 % power generation from Renewable energy sources by 2020.

21 Our Energy Excellence Journey Continues
2020 ZHB 2016 ZHB 2013 ZHB Excellence is not a destination , It’s a Continuous journey that never ends …
