A developing country is a nation with a low living standard and an underdeveloped infrastructure (water supplies, roads, schools, etc.) There is usually much poverty.

A developed country is a country that has a highly developed economy, advanced infrastructure, and high standard of living.

A country’s literacy rate directly affects its standard of living.

Being unable to read or write is a main cause of poverty.
A country with too many people who can’t read or write will result in poverty, because its people will be unemployable and have lives of poverty.

People who can’t read or write on a basic level have very few skills.
They are unable to get good-paying jobs.

Different countries of Asia have different literacy rates.
Japan has the highest literacy rate in Asia. 99% of its people are literate, and therefore Japan’s standard of living is very high.

India’s literacy rate is only 61%, and therefore it has much poverty.
