1 NSS integrated installation plan workshop Introduction
Antonio Bianchi NSS Installation Coordinator NSS Project Division 7th November 2018

2 Agenda 9.00 - 9.20 Introduction to the workshop (Antonio Bianchi)
Approved NSS Re-baseline schedule (Sofie Ossowski / Marie-Louise Ainalem) 9.30 – Installation and cold comm. plan update: Estia Coffee break 10.45 – Installation and cold comm. plan update: Bifrost 11.45– Lunch 12.45 – Installation and cold comm. plan update: Odin 13.45– Installation and cold comm. plan update: C Spec 14.45– Coffee break 15.00 – Installation and cold comm. plan update: Beer 16.00 – Installation and cold comm. plan update: Loki 17.00 – Conclusion

3 Main purposes Progress in the prediction about the resources needed to carry out instruments installation and cold commissioning phase. Amount of resources (labour) fully loaded with reference to E01 and E02.1 buildings from September 2019 up to December 2020 (Beer, C Spec, Bifrost, Magic).

4 AIMS With reference to E01 and E02.1 NSS installations in the time-frame September 2019 – December 2020 (Beer, C Spec, Bifrost, Magic): 1.1 Increase details in the installation tasks, amount and categories of resources needed in the installation, required labour to be provided from ESS; 1.2 Verify the Phase n. 3 (procurement and manufacturing) is compatible with the installation tasks, in order to prevent delay; 2 Progress in the estimation of the resource needed in order to execute the instrument installation and cold commissioning according to the Master Schedule; Identify further improvements needed to what already in place, in order to achieve an integrated plan able to support properly the installation and c.c. phase; Define a suitable timeframe for a regular instrument plan update;

5 Instruments project schedule – previous work
They’re going to fail

6 NSS Integrated installation plan
Bunker Installation plan MASTER PROJECT (BUNKER INST. PLAN) Installation plan 1 Installation plan 2 Instrument 3 Installation Plan Instrument “n” Installation Plan Phase 4 Phase 4 SUBPROJECTS Instrument 1 Project Schedule Instrument 2 Project Schedule Phase 4: on-site delivery, installation and cold commissioning with reference to the whole instrument scope

7 Bunker plan template The Bunker installation and resource plan is the Master Project !! AREA Phase 4: on-site delivery, installation and cold commissioning ESS milestones Subprojects: Each instrument installation plan

8 Resource tasks Define the resource plan task by task, from on-site delivery up to c.c. Amount of resources is essential !! Standard resource sheet (labour) provided from NSS. The task information defines if the resources have to be ESS or by the instrument team Costs information not required ESS and the Instruments Teams have to agree about the amount of resources to comply with the installation schedule

9 Project features (custom fields)
Integration of the instruments installation plans require n. 4 custom fields: Area: text 27 Project Phase: text 28 Responsible Institute (Partner): text 29 Installation package: text 30 It is compulsory to respect the represented text “n”. Custom fields

10 ESS Standard Resource names (1/3)
 Description 1 ESS Mech. Technician (Handling) Resources involved in unloading, move components into the facility, including driving equipment whenever necessary (equipment not included) 2 ESS Mech. Technician (Shielding/Heavy lifting) Required resources to carry out heavy lifting works like the construction of experimental caves and control hutches. 3 ESS Civil Tech. (Cast in place Shielding, Caves) Carpenters, metalworkers, all personnel required to cast concrete on site in order to build experimental caves and/or other concrete structures to be casted in place. 4 ESS Surveyor Surveying and metrology works required to carry out the specific tasks described in the plan. Surveying network already provided from ESS. 5 ESS Crane driver Bunker D01 Resource required to manage the facility crane 6 ESS Crane driver D01 Hall 7 ESS Crane driver Bunker D03 8 ESS Crane driver D03 hall 9 ESS Crane driver E01 hall 10 ESS Rigger All tasks requiring heavy lifting (generally with resource n. 5,6,7.8.9) 11 ESS Mech. Technician (Neutron Optic) Resources involved in the mechanical installation of neutron guides and the mechanical assembly between the neutron optics and the vacuum housing Each one cannot be more than 100% (the equipment is implicitly included) resources 5,6,7,8,9 compulsory only ESS

11 {Resource Name (Instrument name)}
In Kind resource names Standards In Kind resource names are useful to keep “readable” the integrated schedule; Instruments resources will come mainly from: Institutes (PSI, TUM, LLB …..) and Commercial Partners involved in manufacturing and installation; {Resource Name (Instrument name)} Example {MEC-TUM (Odin)}
