Our community-run programs, AAUW Tech Trek and AAUW Tech Savvy, take place on a national scale but draw on the hard work and community knowledge of local AAUW members.

Hands-On STEM Resources for Girls
Partnered with the Arconic Foundation to introduce middle-school students to physics and engineering through constructing a hot air balloon, a rocket, and more. A total of seven lesson plans across 12 hours of instruction, the curriculum is designed to encourage perseverance and inquisitiveness through experimentation.

Day 2- The Internet, Binary Code, Bits and Bytes Day 3- Encryption and Decryption Day 4- Cyber Security and Protecting Yourself Day 5- Cyber Rights and Vocabulary The estimated time for eeach day’s activities is 2 to 2.5 hours, but there are bonus activities.

Women Wizards activity (day 1) She lived from 1914 to She was a popular movie star during the 1940s. In 1942, she coinvented an early form of spread-spectrum broadcasting that affected naval torpedoes. Her invention helped the Allies win World War II and is used in our cell phone technology today. Remember Blazing Saddles? Hedley Lamarr, the railroad tycoon (bad guy) played by Harvey Korman. Her last years were spent in Altamonte Springs. See newspaper article.

Our AAUW Tech Savvy one-day career conferences have been providing middle-schools girls with opportunities to explore STEM for more than 11 years. The conferences offer interactive programming for girls while simultaneously engaging parents and guardians in discussions focused on preparing girls for college and pathways to STEM careers. Hands-On STEM Resources for Girls Mobile App Inventor Anyone Can Build Apps That Impact the World In 2015, we partnered with the Verizon Foundation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to build the Mobile App Inventor program. Piloted at our STEM camps and currently hosted online by MIT, the tool teaches girls mobile app design and basic programming skills.
