4 CASE STUDY – A Day in the Life of an MMO Coastal Admin Officer
Welcome Background Vacancy Process Timeline T’s & C’s CASE STUDY – A Day in the Life of an MMO Coastal Admin Officer No two days are the same as you never quite know what is going to turn up in the post, who is going to call, or who is going to come in to Reception with a query. The first job of a typical day is to go through the answer machine messages, open s that have come in overnight to the office mail box and open the post. Once the Marine Officers arrive in from the local market they tend to bring lots of paperwork with them, which we sort through and enter onto our MMO Database. This can range from recording vessel trip data to sales data from the Markets, as well as individual sales notes from various Buyers. Once logged onto our system we also check all the electronic data that has come in from vessels and look at any that have been flagged up with errors. We also receive a lot of electronic sales notes from Buyers for vessels and often need to add missing gear and area information to these. As we are generally small offices we answer the phone throughout the day and queries can range from “How much Cod am I allowed to catch this month?”, Days at sea transfer enquiries, problems with Users logging on to our Portal, Fishing Vessel Licence transactions questions and many others. Throughout the year we also do various audits and chase for missing information. This can range from missing Landing Declarations, sales notes, transport documentation or monthly shellfish returns.
