3 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the
Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. (cont’d) --1 John ESV

4 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. --1 John ESV

6 1. To worship and serve God 2. To rule over creation in God’s name
(Genesis 1:26-28)

8 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as
God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. --Romans ESV

12 “Whatever controls us is our lord. The person who seeks
power is controlled by power. The person who seeks acceptance is controlled by the people who he or she wants to please. We do not control ourselves. We are controlled by the lord of our life.” --Rebecca Pippert--

25 God never promised to tell me why everything happens the
way it does. But he did promise me that anytime I wanted to talk, he would be happy to listen. And in a world where so many people feel they are all alone, that's a pretty great thing to know. --Daniel Taylor--

37 Right worship shows you relationship to the world
how to have a healthy relationship to the world

38

39 18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does
not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. --1 John ESV

40

41 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs— heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. --Romans ESV

42

43 31 If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not
spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine… (cont’d) --Romans ESV

44 …or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For
your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. --Romans ESV

45

46 --1 John 5.20 ESV “We know that the Son of God has come and has given
us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.” --1 John 5.20 ESV
