2 Trust & Obey

3 Trust & Obey Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Psalm 92:5 How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! Romans 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

4 Trust & Obey Trust in what God say, not what you think (Prov. 3:5)
God’s understanding is greater (Psa. 92:5; Rom. 11:33) God’s enemies don’t understand his thoughts and plans (Micah 4:11-12) We can grasp the benefit of trust (Heb. 12:9-11) Revelation is sufficient (Deut 29:29; 2nd Tim. 3:16-17)

5 Trust & Obey Obedience without an explanation
Abraham left home (Gen. 12:1-9; Heb. 11:8-9) Abraham was willing to offer Isaac, on whom the promises depended (Gen. 22:1-18; Heb. 11:17-19) Israel marched around Jericho (Josh. 6; Heb. 11:30) After fishing all night in vain, Peter let down his nets again at Jesus’ word (Luke 5:4-11)

6 Trust & Obey Hesitation to trust and obey
Israel feared destruction at the Red Sea (Exo. 14:10-14) Israel feared thirst and starvation in the wilderness (Deut. 8:3; Exo. 15:24; 16:2-3; 17:3) Naaman doubted Elisha’s instructions (2nd Kings 5:1-15) Peter didn’t want Jesus to wash his feet (John 13:1-17)

7 Trust & Obey We must trust God, even when we don’t understand
Gospel was folly to the Gentiles and a stumbling block to the Jews (1st Cor. 1:18-25) Gentiles sought human philosophy and indulgence Gentiles mocked Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection Jews already felt righteous without Jesus Jews were looking for a worldly king

8 Trust & Obey We must trust God, even when we don’t understand
Many struggle to accept that the right path is narrow and difficult (Matt. 7:13-14) Many struggle with the difficult requirements of Christ’s law (Matt. 19:9-10) Many struggle with the basic requirements of salvation (Mark 16:16) Many struggle to accept how God tells us to worship him (Col. 3:17)

9 Trust & Obey We must trust God, even when we don’t understand
We walk by faith, not by sight (2nd Cor. 4:16-5:7) God’s word will always prove true (Prov. 30:5) So obey it, even when you don’t fully understand
