Class Book: Jack and the Beanstalk

Jigsaw Theme: Relationships - I know where I fit into my family and where I belong - I know how to make friends and stop myself feeling lonely - I can think of ways to solve problems and stay friends - I am starting to understand the impact of unkind words - I know how to manage my feelings - I know how to be a good friend How could you help at home? -Practise throwing/catching and kicking balls. -Practise holding scissors correctly and develop cutting skills. -Talk about ways of keeping healthy and safe. Talk about foods that are good us. How could you help at home? Go on a minibeast hunt in your garden? How many different types of creepy crawlies can you find? Use books and computers to find out about minibeasts. Write down some facts that you have learnt. Look for signs of Spring- help tidy the garden at home. -Plan some seeds/flowers/fruits/vegetables and help to care for them. Take photos of their growth and write labels for the pictures. How could you help at home? -Encourage your child to work and play with others. -Talk to your child about strategies they could use to solve a problem by themselves or to calm down when they are feeling upset or angry -Challenge your child to play with somebody they don’t usually play with – they might make a new friend! RECEPTION THEME TERM 5: In the Garden Class Book: Jack and the Beanstalk COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE & LITERACY (Listening & Attention, Understanding, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Phonics) MATHS (Numbers, Shape Space & Measures) -Can you count the plastic bugs accurately? Can you use them to help add and take away? -Can you add and take away by counting on or back in your head? -Can you recognise numbers 10-20? -What does symmetrical mean? Can you create a butterfly with symmetrical patterns on its wings? -Can you solve problems by doubling, halving or sharing? -Can you tell the time to the hour? (eg. 1 o’clock) -Can you solve your own mathematical problems? - Can you name and recognise 3D shapes? - -Can you work together with the rest of the class to retell the ”Jack and the Beanstalk” story? -Can you create an alternative version of the story? -What are the features of an information book? Can you write some facts about minibeasts? EXPRESSIVE ART & DESIGN (Art, Music, Role-Play, Design Technology) -How can different materials be used to create a collage? Create a collage of a plant or minibeast. -What is weaving? Can you weave paper and ribbons using a simple loom or frame? -Look closely at a plant and draw the features you can see. Can you make an observational drawing? -Can you make a minibeast mask? How can you make sure that it fits your head? What colours and materials will you use and why? -Can you join in with singing some minibeast songs? How could you help at home? -Practise adding and taking away. Count objects to work out the answer. Your child might be able to record (e.g = 8) Practise counting on from a given number. -Practise saying the number that is 1 more and 1 less than a given number 20. -Compare the heights/lengths of various objects or toys and order them by size. How could you help at home? -Share books with your child every day. -Help your child to use non-fiction books to find out about plants and insects. -Practise writing every day! Write lists, make cards and write simple sentences about things that interest you. Can you write a story? Create an information book? Bring it in to school to show us!! How could you help at home? Provide a variety of resources for your child to explore, experiment and create with at home. Encourage them to construct with a purpose in mind (independently think about and plan what they intend to make.) Encourage them to come up with their own imaginative ideas! Persevere and adapt as necessary!
