2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of April 22, 2019 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Author’s Purpose We will learn how to identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the April writing calendar Math: 3 Digit Addition and Subtraction We will review how to add and subtract within 1,000 using place value strategies. We will also learn how to explain, in writing, how the addition and subtraction strategy worked, using place value and properties of operations. Math Practice one 3-digit addition and subtraction problem a night (with regrouping/ decomposing) then explain your strategy in writing. Be sure to include the strategy you used and place value vocabulary) Writing: Personal Narrative/ Informational/ Opinion We will review how to write a narrative in which they recount a well-elaborated short sequence of events, an informative piece that introduces a topic, uses facts, and provides a concluding statement, and an opinion piece in which they state their opinion, supply reasons, use linking words, and provide a concluding statement. Spelling Complete S.O.S. for the weekly words – their, thought, and upon Choose a spelling activity from the April Speller’s Choice Reading Using a nonfiction book, practice finding the author’s purpose of a paragraph or chapter Raz Kids Science: Life Cycles We will learn how to determine the sequence of and model the life cycle of 4 common animals (mammal, bird, amphibian, insect) and model the life cycle of a plant from seed to maturity by recording changes over a period of time. S.S./ Science Review the plant and animal life cycle journals as they come home each night in your theme interactive notebook Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Language Skill Reading/ Spelling Rule Mark Your Calendar Prefix/ Suffix We will learn how to demonstrate that many words are made up with prefixes, base words, and suffixes.
