The St. Mary & St. Samuel Coptic Orthodox Church, a 2,973 square meter single-story place of worship in Markham, Ontario Canada The building’s intended use and challenging design required a high level of drywall craftsmanship and skill to achieve the ambitious interior space this church demands. The project required the highest quality drywall finishes to the church's domes and high ceiling with severe, critical lighting due to massive windows.

Overall construction included: concrete foundation/slab; structural steel; metal deck; masonry & stucco cladding; aluminum and glazing; interior finishes; mechanical, sprinklers, and electrical Domes in high ceiling required high quality finish (Level 5) due to severe, critical lighting 7,432 m² of VAP Plasterboard 4,459 m² of GlasRoc Exterior Sheathing Full range of CertainTeed Finishing products – compounds, tape, corners… and, CertainTeed Insulation

Overhead ceiling plasterboard installation acted as a smooth surface for final ceiling graphics and a high degree of scrutiny due to extreme lighting that the domes and windows create.

Key achievements Level 5 interior wall/ceiling finish due to extreme lighting High visitor traffic in public areas - Extreme Abuse Plasterboard with No-Coat high performance corners were selected to ensure strong, durable walls while eliminating contractor call-backs Real customer success story with this project for CertainTeed: Smith Brothers Contracting used competitor joint compound and powders. New CertainTeed formulations were introduced to the contractor, who used them throughout this challenging project. They continue to use CertainTeed Finishing Joint Compound and Setting Powders on other projects – successful and sustained customer conversion. Smith Brothers also “trialed” No-Coat Corner System products on the Church and continue to use these corners on other projects.
