Movements Universal tooth movements are achieved. High forces are delivered. Tooth movement is slow. Movement of anchor teeth as well as that of teeth to be moved are seen. Since slot is in mesio distal direction force is transmitted to tooth, Midline discrepancies and anterior movement of archwire see. Only tipping movements achieved. Low forces are delivered. Tooth movement is rapid. Very little movement of anchor teeth is seen. Vertical slot give freedom of tipping in all directions. The application of undesirable forces to root is prevented.
2
Movements Anterior movement of arches is seen Extra oral anchorage required. Absence of anterior movement. No extra oral anchorage required.

Clinical indications It brings about bodily movement of the teeth hence it is useful in situations like closure of extraction spaces. It brings about the proper alignment of crowns and root Since it brings about tipping of teeth in mesio distal direction it helps in de-rotation of rotated teeth. It is useful in correction of deep anterior overbite
