Outline Group Members Challenges Type of capacity development required
Explanations on how the proposed solutions can be operationalised Questions Start off with an outline of the presentation
3
Challenges in terms of capacity for domestic resources mobilisation for the SDGs
Most countries depend on a national budget, approved by law. Countries face different challenges (corruption, financial crisis) affecting availability of resources. Statistics are not a priority Divergence between SDG and country’s planning strategy SDGs cover new areas, and is more ambitious than MDGs. There are challenges for expanding census/surveys ________
4
Challenges in terms of capacity for domestic resources mobilisation for the SDGs
Focus on executing activities within NSOs, and little investment on monitoring and evaluation. Cost-reduction efforts (e.g. through administrative records, big data) imply initial investments but are better in the long run.
5
Type of capacity development is required to leverage additional domestic funding for statistics
Partnership with private sector (e.g. CPI), exploring new sources Innovation/technology should be part of the capacity envelope Coordination capacity to avoid fragmentation of data collection and reduce costs Communication skills
6
Explanations on how can be operationalised the proposed solutions
Best “partnership” really depends on each country. No one-size-fits-all model. Coordination between government and private sector is important. Why not partnering more with academia/universities? There are opportunities. Implementation: how to measure results of Capacity Development

Questions? If remaining time, you can open the floor to questions.
