1 Remember Your Salvation
Titus 3:4-7

2 Titus 3:1-3 Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, 2 to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men. 3 For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

3 Titus 3:4-7 4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

4 Big Idea All aspects of salvation are sovereignly initiated and empowered by God alone, those who are the redeemed would do well to remember this truth; we are different now only because He chose to save us.

5 Remember Your Salvation
I. We should remember that we are saved by the kindness of God (3:4a) “But when the kindness of God our Savior” “Kindness” - Chrestotes means genuine goodness or generosity of heart. Romans 2:4 Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

6 Remember Your Salvation
II. We should remember that we are saved by God’s uninfluenced and unearned love for mankind (3:4b-5a) “and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy” “To have affection for” – Phileo “Man” or “Mankind” – Anthropos “To have affection for mankind” = Philanthropia

7 Remember Your Salvation
II. We should remember that we are saved by God’s uninfluenced and unearned love for mankind (3:4b-5a) The next day we put in at Sidon; and Julius treated Paul with consideration (philanthropia) and allowed him to go to his friends and receive care. (Acts 27:3) The natives showed us extraordinary kindness (philanthropia); for because of the rain that had set in and because of the cold, they kindled a fire and received us all. (Acts 28:2)

8 Remember Your Salvation
II. We should remember that we are saved by God’s uninfluenced and unearned love for mankind (3:4b-5a) Salvation grants us the privilege: To come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4) To be made alive together with Christ (Ephesians 2:5) To be delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of His beloved Son (Colossians 1:13) To have the hope of eternal life (Titus 1:2)

9 Remember Your Salvation
III. We should remember that we are saved by the washing of regeneration (3:5b) “…by the washing of regeneration…” “Regeneration” – Palingenesia has the idea of receiving new life, of born again, of born from above. The deadness of sin is foul and wretched; this is what we have been saved from. The Blood of the Perfect One made it possible, the regeneration has restored us, made us new, we are now alive.

10 Remember Your Salvation
IV. We should remember that we are saved by the renewing by the Holy Spirit (3:5c) “…and renewing by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:3: Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

11 Remember Your Salvation
V. We should remember that we are saved only by the substitutionary and atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ (3:6) “Whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior.” John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

12 Remember Your Salvation
VI. We should remember that we are saved by God’s grace (3:7) “So that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” 2 Timothy 1:9 “[God] has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity.”

13 Remember Your Salvation
VI. We should remember that we are saved by God’s grace (3:7) “So that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Philippians 3:4-7 “4If anyone else has a mind to put confidence in the flesh, I far more: 5circumcised the eighth day, of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the Law, a Pharisee; 6as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless. 7But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

14 Remember Your Salvation
VI. We should remember that we are saved by God’s grace (3:7) “So that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Philippians 3:8-9 “8More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, 9and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith.”

15 Remember Your Salvation
VI. We should remember that we are saved by God’s grace (3:7) “So that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Hebrews 10:19-23 “19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”
