2 First … Do exercise 1 on the worksheet: label the diagram.
2. Talk in your group and discuss how wave power generates electricity.

3 Next Look at the following picture slides and check your answers to exercise 1.

4 The energy in waves can be harnessed to produce electricity.

5 As waves crash into a chamber on the seashore,

6 they drive air into a pipe on the top of a chamber

7 The pipe is fitted with a turbine which rotates as the air is forced past it.

8 As the waves leaves the chamber, air is sucked back down the pipe, keeping the turbine moving.

9 The turbine is connected to a shaft, which powers a generator to convert the energy into electricity.

10 Electricity is sent via pylons and cables to homes around the country.

11 Now … Do exercise 2 on the worksheet: match the two parts of each sentence. 5. Do exercise 3 on the worksheet: write sentences using the prompts.

12 Presentation (for classes working in groups only)
6. Give an oral commentary on the picture slides.
