Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics
What is CEREC ? Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics CEREC is a revolutionary system that enables your dentist to design, fabricate and fit a new crown , veneer or inlay in a single visit. It consists of a computer with CAD-CAM technology with a 3D camera to capture images of the patient's teeth.
4
How does this CEREC technology work?
Your dentist will prepare your tooth in the normal way .The tooth is then powder sprayed, imaged by a 3D camera and uploaded to the CEREC computer. How does this CEREC technology work?
5
Using the proprietary CEREC software in various modes, a restoration can be designed to restore the tooth to its appropriate form and function .The restoration is designed on the monitor of the CEREC computer.
6
This data on this restoration is stored in a computer file and sent directly to the milling machine.
7
The restoration is then milled out of a solid ceramic block.
8
Milling time varies from as little as four minutes to as long as twenty depending on the complexity of the restoration.
9
What treatments or problems is CEREC used for?
10
Why might I need crowns? Crowns
If your tooth has undergone significant decay and there is not enough tooth structure remaining to support a filling or an inlay and maintain functionaility. If a large portion of your tooth has fractured and it cannot be built up using traditional composite bonding techniques . If you have a large cavity and opt for the additional protection a crown offers to your tooth over a large composite filling or an inlay. Following root canal treatment, a crown is often needed to strengthen the tooth. If you grind your teeth and have a poor diet, acid errosion may reduce your teeth to a point where the only option available is to crown them. For cosmetic reasons, to improve the aesthetics of your smile, you may opt for all porcelain cosmetic crowns. Dental crowns are restorations that protect damaged, cracked or broken down teeth. A crown strengthens your existing, damaged tooth so as to preserve its functionality. Dental crowns are also commonly known as caps (because a crown sits over your existing tooth, covering the entire outer surface).

Veneers Stained teeth - badly stained teeth that cannot be improved by tooth whitening. Veneers function is to cover any existing stains on your teeth. Damaged teeth - teeth that have become badly worn through excessive grinding or by carbonated drinks, as well as those that have been chipped or broken, can benefit from veneers. Gaps- spaces (diastema) between your teeth can easily be closed using dental veneers, giving you a more uniform-looking smile. Cracked teeth - Veneers are the ideal treatment for cracked teeth. Veneers placed over their front surface will give a straight and perfect looking smile.

An Australian patient came in to Queens Drive Dental Practice to improve her smile. The patient wanted to improve the appearance of her front teeth. Four CEREC crowns were fitted on the same day on four front teeth. She was delighted with the final result.

Introduction to Inlays
Dental inlays are used in the restoration of decayed ,cracked or broken teeth. Inlays are used for teeth that are not damaged enough to require crowns . These are made of ceramics and are bonded into place. Inlays help preserve more of your natural tooth.

What are the benefits of CEREC?
Everything is carried out in a single visit - you only need to visit the dentist once - take one visit away from your work or life to have the procedure - instead of the usual two or three . Only one set of local anaesthetic - since the entire procedure can be carried out within the hour, you only need to have one anaesthetic. Your dentist is in complete control of the final result - since the crown, inlay or veneer is designed and fabricated from start to finish by your dentist and technician, while you wait, they have total control over how it will look, fit and feel. No temporary restorations - if you have lab-made veneers, you would require temporary veneers during the wait for your new teeth. These have been known to fall off and cause problems, which is a step that is omitted with CEREC restorations. No conventional impressions. The CEREC 3D measuring camera scans the prepared tooth in just a few second. Highly aesthetic . The CEREC restoration has no metal .
16
Aesthetically challenging restorations are fabricated out of multilayered, porcelain. Characterization, using ceramic stains or cutback veneering, is performed by our technicians and thanks to the on-site dental laboratory, restorations are ready for placement within one working day.
