Activity 1: Snakes and Ladders
Note to teacher: 1. Divide class into two groups; Group A and Group B 2. One student from Group A is asked to roll the dice and read aloud the number obtained in English 3. The same student must then write the number obtained in words on the whiteboard. 4. One student from Group B is asked to roll the dice and say the number aloud and move the game piece accordingly. The student should then read the number on the square aloud and write the number on the whiteboard. 5. This procedure should then be repeated by a new student from each group.

Activity 2: Hundred number chart
Fill the white cells with the appropriate numbers.
9
Numbers: Recap 0 – zero 1 – one 2 – two 3 – three 4 – four 5 – five
6 – six 7 – seven 8 – eight 9 – nine Numbers Note: Here, manipulatives can be used to allow students to relate the number to quantity.
10
Practice Match each of the numerals to its corresponding number name 1
nine 6 zero 4 one 9 four 2 six two
11
Connections between numbers
Note: Numbers are connected to one another. Any number can be obtained by connecting two or more numbers together. For example, we can obtain “ten” through those number bonds shown below. Use your ten-frame to complete the rest.
12
Activity 3: Number bonds to 10 – Activities with 10 frames
Note to Teacher: Make use of Ten Frame and bottle tops/ buttons as teaching aids.

Place value How are the following numbers different? 23 and 32?
18
Rs 23 versus Rs 32 Rs23 Rs32
19
Rs 23 versus Rs 32 23 = 20 + 3 32 = 30 + 2 = 2 tens + 3 ones (units)
= (2 × 10) + ( 3 × 1) 32 = = 3 tens + 2 ones (units) = (3 × 10) + ( 2 × 1)

Activity 13: Number slider
We can also represent numbers on a number slider for example: 346 (3x 100) + (4x10) + (6x1) Or in words three hundreds, four tens and six ones. To prepare 10 place value sliders Note: Each student is given a place value slider to input numbers
62
Place value: Expanded form
In expanded form, we have 346 = (3 x 100) + (4 x10) + (6 x 1) = three hundreds + four tens + six ones. These are the expanded forms to write a number
