Reference- Why??? Avoid plagiarism- Academic dishonesty.
Giving proper credit to original author. Giving evidence to the depth of research carried out. Helping others to refer to the materials used.

WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Serious offense where student will be penalized.
On the 3rd attempt of ‘Academic Dishonestly’ student will be expelled from the program.

Reference- What??? “Is a system of acknowledging the ideas, theories, quotes, facts and work of others in the academic community”

Reference- How??? In-text citation- documented in the body of your paper, but must also be listed in the proper format on the Reference page. Information needed- Author and Date Eg: (Cottrell, 2013)

In-test citation Paraphrase- Restating in your own words the original author's EXACT meaning - not just rearranging words in the author's original text. Quote- use the exact word to word, no change from the original.

Reference List- Includes all work that’s been cited in the text
Reference List- Includes all work that’s been cited in the text. Bibliography- Includes all references cited and not cited in the text.

The list of references and the bibliography should be in alphabetical order of originator (e.g. author of a book or article). If an author has published more documents in the same year, distinguish between them by adding lower-case letters

Five essential elements of referencing:
Author details - individual, company or organisation. The date of publication or when the website or resource was created, last amended or accessed. The title of the item, document or page. The publisher or the source (e.g. the name of a journal, the owner of the website etc.) The place of publication, the full web address (URL) or the type of resource if it is not a web site (e.g. an ) or page numbers if it is a journal

Common Misconceptions
I have used my own words or added or modified the original text. I don’t have to reference the information in my lecture notes. I didn’t reference what is based on my personal observation or experience.
