1 CONSTRUCTION OF BULK BLEND FERTIZER PLANT
SARAWAK PLANTATION BERHAD 28 OKTOBER 2013

2 INTRODUCTION Diversatech Fertilizer Sdn Bhd (DFSB) was established in 1998 with its primary focus on improving yields in the oil palm, rubber and paddy sectors through balance, efficient, and effective fertilizers. This concept paper is prepared to assist Sarawak Plantation Berhad (SPB) to evaluate the possibilities of construction bulk blend fertilizer in Miri or other part of Sarawak.

3 16 January 2008 Diversatech had an agreement of collaboration research with UPM

4 DFSB had a an association with Euragglo France in developing
a Fertilizer Plant for tropical region since 2009

5 DFSB has a complete and sufficient technical support in setting up
a fertilizer factory for bulk blend or dry granulation plant 7 February 2009

6 DFSB has an ISO accreditation Quality Management Systems ISO 9001
Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001 Safety Management Systems OHSAS 18001

7 DFSB hold a patent on Nutrients Formula for Contributing to Lignin Synthesis to Reduce Ganoderma Diseases B Mn Cu Patent: PI Fertilizer Composition for Reducing Ganoderma Disease

8 Rationale of Nutrients Balance
To better manage nutrients uptake, high yield, and increase plant resistance against diseases, one should be looking at the concept of adopting the balance fertilization program to their plantation. Balance fertilizer is achieved when the soil is supplied with the correct amount and proportions of macro and micro nutrients given at the same time. This can be achieved by using compound or bulk blend fertilizers.

9 In Malaysia, the fertilization program is done mostly using the straight fertilizers.
The preference of straight against compound fertilizers in oil palm plantations is due to the cost. Most plantations required 7-8 rounds of fertilizer applications when use straight fertilizers compare to only 3-4 rounds for compound or bulk blend fertilizers. (Esnan et al., 2004)

10 LAW OF MINIMUM Liebig J.V. ( ) : “The growth of any plant is limited most by the essential element present in the least relative amount”. (Gardiner and Miller, 2004)

11 The law of the minimum concept explain the disadvantages of using straight fertilizers when apply separately at different time, as this may create a risk from heavy rainfall that some elements at any one time may present below the soil critical level which limits plant growth.

12 What is Bulk-Blended Fertilizer:-
“Is a uniform product made by dry mechanically mixing with two or more granular materials having known nutrient content whose granules are similar in size”. This technology has been used in the United States about 80% of fertilizer production since 1960 till to date.

13 The advantages of bulk blend is due to less segregation when mixing because each component of the raw material has similar size and the formulation can be easily change according to the planters’ demand.

14 RAW MATERIAL FOR BULK BLEND FERTILIZERS
Ammonium Sulphate (N) Diammonium Phosphate (P2O5) Muriate of Potash (K2O) AJIB (Mg + S + Micronutrients)

25 Advantages of Bulk Blending
Low investment cost Plant operation is easy Maintenance cost is low Easy to formulate fertilizer grade base on foliar analysis for site specific manuring program (SSMP) Reduce Law of Minimum incidence, whereby enhance crop yield

26 Disadvantages of Bulk Blending
Require correct coating material to prevent hygroscopic due products incompatibility Solution: ANPICA Difficulties in mixing small quantities of Micronutrients. Solution: use AJIB

27 Research at UPM had developed the Nanotechnology materials (ANPICA) to overcome the caking and hygroscopic properties of the bulk-blend fertilizer.

28 Bulk Blending Plant Equipments
Forklift Bins for dosing raw materials Screen to remove lumps Mixer Conveyors Bagging hopper

29 Approximate Cost of Setting up the Bulk Blending Machine
For simple semi-auto blending machine ~ < RM 0.5 million. For fully auto blending machine inclusive auto bagging could be between RM 5-7 million. The above cost does not include the factory or wearhouse building.

30 Example of Bulk Blend Fertilizer
Granule 1: N - Urea, AS or AC Granule 2: K2O - MOP Granule 3: P2O5 – DAP or MAP Granule 4: AJIB (Mg, S, B, Cu, Zn, Mn, Cl, Mo) Can produce almost all fertilizer grades available in the market.

31 COLLABORATION : SPB & DFSB
DFSB will provide the technology know how on setting-up the bulk-blend fertilizer machine. SPB will built the factory or rent with a build-up area of 75,000 sq ft to produce about 50,000 mt fertilizer per year.

32 COLLABORATION : SPB & DFSB
DFSB will supply AJIB (a patent material) which contain Mg, S and other micronutrients that will help to enhance FFB yield and reduce ganoderma incidence. SPB will buy other raw materials directly to other manufacturer or by tenders.

33 COLLABORATION : SPB & DFSB
DFSB will assist in marketing 25% or 12,500 mt/year of the production to other plantation in Sarawak with transfer price agreed by both parties. The current retail value of bulk blend fertilizer complete with AJIB in Sarawak (excluding local delivery) is estimated below RM 1350/mt

34 COLLABORATION : SPB & DFSB
In addition, SPB will be able to make a gross profit of RM 7.5 to 10.0 million per year from the 50,000 mt/yr bulk blend production (it is estimated the actual cost of blending and bagging is RM 25/mt).
