Are all of the food groups I need in my diet on there?
Eating a balanced diet can help keep my teeth healthy too.
11
Do you know what happens inside your mouth every time you eat?
Let’s find out the facts on my tablet.
12
Every time you eat foods or drinks containing sugars the bacteria in plaque produces acids, which can damage the tooth enamel. Dentists call this an ‘attack’.
13
How does our mouth recover from an ‘attack’?
After every balanced meal your mouth reproduces saliva. This helps cancel out the acids produced. Your mouth can only do this four times a day – which is why it’s important to have three meals a day and no more than one snack.
14
Snack ‘attack’? If between your balanced meals, you find you do need to snack try not to have more than one and make sure it isn’t too high in sugar. Snacks like raw vegetables, nuts, cheese or breadsticks are good choices.
15
From what we have learnt so far, who can tell me how many balanced meals and how many snacks we should have a day?
