This question is a sort of ‘warm up’ for the following set. It probes prior knowledge to make sure students recognize depictions of cells/nuclei/chromosomes during mitosis. This question may not be as useful if the sequence is used after the cell division chapter. As a matter of style, some instructors like to present a question before showing multiple choice selections as the cognitive response may be quite different.

I usually remind them about DNA being a double helix, and that when we use a representation other than a double helix (e.g. condensed chromosome like in these images), they must remember what it represents on the molecular scale, expecially in the cell cycle.
