2 Project Title: Hygiene to Safe Lives and Money
A community project aimed at raising awareness of community members on some key sanitation concerns highlighting the link between hygiene, sanitation and good health. This project involves projection of videos, pictures, practical demonstrations, lectures, interactive exchange discussions/including questions and answers. Together we can push progress on SDG’s 3 & 6 and attain Agenda 2030 on WASH.

3 Key Issues To Raise Awareness On
Cleaning of kitchen utensils Household cleaning Open defecation Hand washing Waste Disposal

4 Cleaning of Kitchen Utensils
We must cultivate & practice the proper handling and washing of all kitchen utensils including spoons, pots, plates and even the food stuff we have to cook well. Because they have a direct link and effect to our stomachs, our health and our money. We must use clean hand napkins to dry our kitchen utensils after washing them. This minimizes the risk of contamination.

5 Examples of Bad Cases E.g Imagine a mother who cooks vegetable cultivated with chemicals without properly washing it and gives the children to eat! What will be the response in the stomach of the children? Another woman gives a raw tomato to a child to eat in other to get some vitamins without properly washing off the chemicals used on the tomatoes in the farm.

6 Other Examples Imagine cooked spoons, opened pots, plates, bowls etc visited by cockroaches overnight and the next morning you use the same kitchen utensils to dish food for your family. The results can always be food poisoning reflected in the stomachs and consequential deaths in our communities.

7 Household Cleaning The proper cleaning of our household will end up with a general clean and healthy environment good for all of us in our community. If family A, B, C, D, etc maintains and practice operation clean house, clean compound, so too the whole community becomes clean. Results clean community free of MOSQUITOES and other diseases. Our money will be saved for useful purposes.

8 Open Defecation Excreting in open places such as fields, bushes, forests, streams, seas. It is a disgrace to humanity and loss of dignity. It is and absolutely good to properly use the designed toilets at all times to prevent the spread of diseases that should have been avoided.

9 Who Defecates in the Open?
Is there anyone here who can tell me that he never shit openly? Definitely not! We all are guilty of doing so or haven done so at least once before now. We say to this practice, for it is bad and very bad!

10 Effects of Open Defecation
Open defecation is negative to both human beings and the environment.

11 Think of Illnesses such as:
Cholera Dysentery Hepatitis Typhoid Malaria

12 Hand Washing The proper washing of hands is and remains a major world concern for all.

13 Best Ways to Wash Hands We must wash our hands with soap or detergent. Soap is a key element when it concerns washing of hands. Without the use of soap, one is simply rubbing the dirt's back in your hands. We must use two buckets/bowls, wash in one and then rinse in the other. Use running tap water, in the case where your hands are already contaminated, someone else must assist in opening the tap. NB: This is to avoid subsequent contamination of other community members using the same tap. However, Bridgers Association Cameroon recommends that before visiting the toilet, one should keep water ready in two separate buckets for the washing of hands on return. Use clean hand napkins to dry hands after washing.

14 When Should You Wash Your Hands?
After visiting the toilet Before and after cooking After blowing your nose/catarrh After greeting people After changing menstrual pads After changing children napkins/diapers After urinating After out door walk or activities Etc.

15 Waste Disposal Best ways to dispose of waste is to tie your waste into plastic papers and drop in a trash can which should and must be placed some reasonable distance away from our kitchen. This will prevent flies from landing on the waste and then later contaminating eatable items in the house. NB: statistics show that many people have been infected by flies as a result of improper waste disposal in our communities. The actions of Mrs. ‘K’ are most likely to negatively affect Mrs. ‘P’ and even Mr. ‘Y’ as well as the children of Mr./Mrs. ‘D’. The entire community needs to be on the alert and must be each others keep.

16 Summary of Lessons Learned
You are what you eat. A clean environment, a healthy environment. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Be each others keeper in a community. A clean environment give rise to clean and intelligent children. Our communities can always attract guests and visitors if clean. ****Your money will be saved for good use***
