3 Purpose:  To facilitate the child's movement from school to post-school (coordinated set) activities…. Post-Secondary Education Vocational Education Integrated Employment/Supported Employment Continuing and Adult Ed. Adult Services, Independent Living or Community Services CFR (a)(1)

4 Daily Living Skills and provision of Functional Voc. Evaluation.
Based on the individual needs of the student, strengths, preferences, and interests…CFR (a)(2) Instruction, Related Services, Community Experiences, Employment & Adult Living Objectives, and, If appropriate, Daily Living Skills and provision of Functional Voc. Evaluation.

5 School must invite a child with a disability to attend the child’s IEP Team meeting if a purpose of the meeting will be the consideration of the postsecondary goals for the child and the transition services CFR   §  If the student does not attend the school must take steps to ensure student’s preferences and interests are considered (b)(2)

6 Timelines- ARD Must Consider
No later than Age 14 Student involvment in transition process Appropriate involvement of the parent and other persons transition process. Post-secondary education options- including coursework Functional Vocational Evaluation Employment goals and objectives Independent living goals and objectives Referrals to government agencies services or benefits / place on waiting lists.

7 The use and availability of appropriate:
Still no- later than age 14 The use and availability of appropriate: (A)  supplementary aids, services, curricula, and other opportunities to assist the student in developing decision-making skills; and (B)  supports and services to foster the student's independence and self-determination, including a supported decision-making agreement under EST, Chapter 1357

8 The first IEP to be in effect when the child turns 16
Measureable post-secondary goals: training, education, employment and (if appropriate) independent living skills. Transition services- includes course of study- to reach goals

9 At 17 Not later than one year before the 18th birthday of the child with a disability- transfer of rights notice (a)  TEC EST Ch * school year: Ensure that the student’s IEP includes a statement that the LEA provided the written notice regarding the transfer of rights of the child and information and resources regarding guardianship, alternatives to guardianship including a supported decision-making agreement, and other supports and services that may enable the adult student to live independently.  Legal Framework: Adult student and transfer of rights.

10 If the student is 18 The availability of age-appropriate instructional environments ..community settings or environments that prepare the student for postsecondary education or training, competitive integrated employment, or independent living, in coordination with the adult student’s transition goals and objectives…   (j)(7)  TEC (a)(7) Rights transfer to the student (adult student) Consider the role of the parent and others Adult student’s consent to participate pursuant to a supported decision-making agreement (j)(3)(B)  TEC (a)(3)(B)  EST Ch. 1357

11 Other Considerations Must review and update transition annually Must have access to CTE-consider graduation plan, transition plan, IEP, class supports If agencies fail to help- consider alternatives to meet transition objectives Transition can start earlier if needed. ARD decision.
