Introductions Shelly Ingram, AMS Counselor
How can a school counselor help my future AMS student? What will my student’s schedule look like? When will I receive report cards? What classes are year long? Quarter long?

Course Descriptions All 7th Graders are enrolled in: -Social Studies
-Science -Language Arts -Math 7, Accelerated Math 7 -PE (3 quarters) -Health (1 quarter) Teams are assigned at random and the above classes are offered on both Purple 7 and Silver 7.

Elective Classes Most elective classes are 9 weeks long (one quarter).
Most elective classes can only be taken one time in a student’s career at AMS. Some classes that may be repeated: -Choir -Band -Orchestra -Exploring STEM (up to 6 times)

Things to consider….. - What interests my student the most?
-Filling out elective enrollment sheet individually and not focusing on what friends may be selecting. -Some classes are only offered at certain times and can fill up quickly. -It is important to list out all 8 classes in order of preference. -Provide 4 alternative courses. -2nd meeting with Mrs. Ingram to enter elective selections into the student portal. What are Assigned Classes (These take the place of an elective) -Math Lab -Reading -Learning Strategies -Guided Study Hall -MTSS -Math Placement

USD 383 7th Grade Math Placement
The process for placing students in math will include the following criteria: 6th grade FAST Kansas State Math Assessment 6th Grade Teacher Checklist The 6th grade Kansas State Math Assessment will be used to screen students for enrollment in seventh grade math. Students who score in the Category 4 level will have the opportunity to enroll in Accelerated Math 7. The following criteria will be used to determine placement for students scoring below the Category 4 level on the 6th grade Kansas State Math Assessment: Category 3 level on the Kansas State Math Assessment FAST aMath 6th grade Winter and Spring scaled score ≥232 Selection decisions will be made by middle school principals and middle school math teachers after reviewing the above data on 6th grade students. Parents of students selected for acceleration will be contacted by the middle school via letter in June. See you at Tornado Transition!!
Look for more information about Tornado Transition to come home with your student in May! Your child’s elementary school will send out the notifications and information. -Your student will visit AMS in April to learn more prior to the summer. -There are usually two dates for Tornado Transition and you can expect those dates to be sometime the week before school starts in August. -Students spend some time getting familiar with AMS, learning more about our school, meeting new classmates and will receive their schedules/lockers during this time.
