Sunnyvale High School 2019 Prom Information and Guidelines

Time: 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm Location: The Castle at Rockwall 2071 Clem Road Ext. Rockwall, TX 75087 Discounted price of $85 if purchased by May 3, 2019 Tickets will be $100 at the door All Date Forms must be pre-approved by campus administration

3 Why do we have a dress code?
SHS staff and administration want you to make good choices. We are not trying to inhibit your style. Prom should be fun, but we want everyone to be comfortable and safe. With modesty in mind, the dress code guidelines will be enforced.

4 Dress code rules The SHS prom dress code applies to both SHS students and their dates. It is the responsibility of the students to inform their dates of the dress code guidelines. As you begin shopping for a dress/suit, please keep the following guidelines in mind: * While we will be reasonable in the interpretation of these guidelines, we want you to know that you will not be allowed to participate in Prom activities if you are not dressed appropriately. * If you have specific questions about the Formal Dress Code, please see the campus principal for clarification.

5 Dress Code Rule #1 Dresses may not be cut below the bust line. The bust continues around your sides directly under the armpit. With arms at your side, if flesh touches flesh below the bust line, the dress in inappropriate. This dress meets the dress code. Bust line (on the side) Bust line

6 Rule #1: Unacceptable Dresses

7 Dress Code Rule #2 Necklines of female students must not be lower than five inches from the base of the neck. Hemlines should be no shorter than three inches above the knees.

8 Rule #2: Unacceptable – too short
Hemline no shorter than three inches above the knee.

9 Dress Code Rule #3 Dresses may be backless as long as they are not cut below the navel. This dress meets dress code. Please notice how the bust is covered on the sides.

10 Rule #3: Unacceptable dresses

11 Dress Code Rule #4 Two piece dresses are allowed if no more than 2-3 inches of Midriff is shown. This includes both front and side. With arms down at your side, if flesh touches flesh in the midriff section, the dress is inappropriate. Midriff section This dress meets dress code.

12 Rule #4: Unacceptable dresses

13 Dress Code Rule #5 Dresses may not have a slit that exceeds mid-thigh. This is finger-tip length. This dress meets dress code.

14 Rule #5: Unacceptable dresses

15 Pinning and Fabric Inserts
No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if, without the pins, the dress does not meet dress code. Fabric inserts must be sewn, not pinned, on the dress, if, without the inserts, the dress does not meet dress code. No cover-ups (coats, shawls, sweaters) will be allowed over dresses that do not meet dress code.

There are many beautiful and stylish dresses that meet the dress code.

17 Other Dress Code Notes Not allowed:
Body piercing jewelry (except in the ears of female students) or spacers for earrings or body piercing. Visible tattoos. Cosmetic contact lenses of a color not natural to a person, or patterned lenses (unless prescribed by a doctor). Hair colors not natural to a person (i.e., green, orange, purple, etc.) or spiked hair.

18 Male Dress Code: Hair Male students and male dates’ hair length must not be long enough to extend below the eyebrow, extend completely over the collar, or be excessively full on the sides or back. Hair must not extend below the earlobe, and sideburns must not extend past the earlobe or extend forward on the face. Facial hair should be closely trimmed and well groomed. Sideburns are not to extend below the earlobe. “Muttonchops” or other excessive sideburn styles are not allowed. \

19 Dress Code Summary With modesty in mind, the dress code will be enforced. Dresses may not be cut below the bust line. Necklines of female students must not be lower than five inches from the base of the back. Hemlines should be no shorter than three inches above the knees. Midriffs will not be exposed. This includes both front and side. Dresses may not have a slit that exceeds mid-thigh. No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress. Fabric inserts must be sewn, not pinned on the dress if the dress does not meet dress code without inserts. No cover-ups (coats, shawls, sweaters) will be allowed over dresses that do not meet dress code.

20 Miscellaneous Out of district guests must receive prior approval from campus administration before attending. Any student or guest found in violation of the SISD drug, alcohol or tobacco policy will be reported to law enforcement.

21 SISD Dance Policy All students and guests are expected to abide by the following dance guidelines. The goal is to eliminate inappropriate and/or sexually suggestive dancing and dancing that may cause bodily harm. The first offense will result in a verbal warning. The second offense may result in removal from the event.
