2. Revision of the Staff Regulations - Background
Difficult economic situation in Europe
European Commission proposes efficiency gains and savings in administrative expenditure
To demonstrate solidarity with Member States and the European citizens

3. Revision of the Staff Regulations - Procedure
Staff Regulations are subject to co-decision
Proposal launched by the European Commission in November 2011
European Parliament took its position as regards the proposal in April 2012
In July 2012, 8 Member States wrote to the European Commission requesting calculations on savings in the context of the Staff Regulations
Any further progress is linked to the overall negociations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (Council meeting 22-23/11/2012)

4. Revision of the Staff Regulations - Content
Staff cuts (minimum 1% per year in the period )
Working conditions (40 hours per week)
New solutions for the annual adjustments of salaries and calculation method of pensions
Career perspectives for AST staff
Extension of contract duration for contract staff

5. Challenges in Eurostat
Implementation of the revised Staff Regulations
Continued investment in priorities areas
Implementation of the Eurostat/ESS "vision" with less resources
