Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
2
The down side of a fallen angel devil!
A Non-Omnipotent God A Non-Omniscient God A chaotic Universe paralleling today’s earth! The Lord’s prayer doesn’t work! A cynical age The end result of the above equals --- ? A non all powerful God for if there was such a creature, God would have destroyed it. God would also, if omniscient known about this fallen angel and never created it.

Our age of unbelief! The New Jersey Devils! From Time Magazine
4
Why is this subject difficult to handle?
Requires a good understanding of the language of Scripture, i.e. Personification Sign and Symbolism Parables Metonymy
5
PERSONIFICATION SIN PERSONIFIED as a master, king, Devil, Satan ( RM.5:21). RICHES PERSONIFIED MT.6:24 (mammon) SCRIPTURE PERSONIFIED GAL.3:8 (gospel) WISDOM PERSONIFIED as a woman, PROV.3:13-15. ISRAEL PERSONIFIED as a virgin, JER.31:4,18 PEOPLE PERSONIFIED EPH.4:4,13 (as one body in Christ)
6
An additional reason why this subject is difficult to handle!
The BIBLE uses false beliefs w/o starting they are false, i.e. Impotent man - angel troubled the waters, John 5:3-5. Christ's use of Beelzebub in answer to the Pharisees, Matt.12:27.

Who creates evil – God or the Devil?
An important surprise Who creates evil – God or the Devil? Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. Micah 1:12 For the inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem. Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

We make the decision to go in and see the movie.
The Devil made me do it! This defence doesn’t work for deep down we know it is us who make the decisions in life. The SOURCE OF TEMPTATION is our nature inherited from Adam. The SOURCE TRIGGERING TEMPTATION is when we allow lust to entice us. James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. We make the decision to go in and see the movie.

Even this satellite picture doesn’t show all kingdoms!
Who is the devil here? MAT 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Can you imagine Jesus allowing himself to be taken anywhere by a fallen angel devil . What mountain is this high? Didn't Jesus already have this power? Mt.3:16 & John 3:34 shows he receive this power without measure at his baptism. Since Jesus already had this power, the Devil must be Jesus’ thoughts on how to use this new power. Even this satellite picture doesn’t show all kingdoms!

Who is the “diabolos”? 2 Tim. 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 “Without natural affection, trucebreakers, trucebreakers, false accusers (1228 “diabolos”)…” 1228 “diabolos”; adj. AV - devil 35, false accuser 2, slanderer 1; 38 = a false slanderer 1Tim. 3:11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers (1228“diabolos” a false accuser), sober, faithful in all things” Matthew 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan (4567“Satanas”): thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. 4567 Satanas {sat-an-as'} n pr m AV - Satan 36; 36 = a good or bad adversary Use marker to answer “Men” are the diabolos in 2 Tim 3:2 and wives in 1Tim. 3:11. Who here is the devil?

Who moved David to number the people?
2 Samuel 24:1 And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. 1 Chron. 21:1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

Who filled their hearts to lie?
Acts 5:1-2 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, [2] And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. [3] But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? [4] … Why has thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Their own desires caused them to lie. They were Satan to each other! They were trying to serve two masters. The praise of men was more important than the praise of God.
13
Who is the devil here? We allow our human desires to conflict God's laws, Mark 7:21-23. Mark7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, … When we satisfy human nature at the expense of God's creation. (James 4:1-4) When we are deceived by human nature. Jeremiah17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: … It is US when …

Who was the devil here? 1PE 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: The Roman magistracy was the “diabolos” who falsely accused the Christians throwing them to the lions. H I N T

War in Heaven??? REV 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, [9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Context: Revelation is a book of sign and symbol. You can't take it literally! i.e. Rev. 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. [4] And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth:… What about the rest of Scripture, i.e. MAT 6:10? "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.“ No the Devil here is the Pagan Roman Empire personified as reigning in the Roman heaven..

A meeting of the ecclesia before God.
Job1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God (men in Hos. 1:10) came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. Here Satan has the definite article so it is thought Satan is an individual as compared to a personification of the assembly. Satan’s power is God given as seen in Job 2:3. Job2:3 And the LORD said unto Satan, … although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. Job 42:11; 19:21 God not Satan brought this evil upon Job. Job42:11… and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money … As to whom this adversary was we are not told. He probably was a man who was envious of Job and God was working to change him.

Who is Lucifer? Isaiah14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! The context of this “proverb” identifies Lucifer as the “king of Babylon”. Isaiah14:4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! Isaiah14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

A powerful verse that destroys the modern concept of the Devil!
Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; If Jesus was to kill the devil why did he take on a body of “flesh and blood”? How would Jesus destroy a supernatural devil with his death? If Jesus destroyed the devil with his death, then it would no longer be existence.
19
What did Jesus destroy with his death?
HEB 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; Jesus literally on the cross put to death his nature. Jesus destroyed the power of the Devil (“KING SIN” personified) to reign causing eternal death. Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. Because of Jesus “grace” now reigns.

D e m o n s Webster's Dictionary
DEMON - In late Biblical Judaism and early Christianity. “A pagan spirit” “An unclean spirit or evil superhuman being.” “A god but believed to be capable of inhabiting and actuating the bodies of men.”
21
Jesus’ conformity to the language
doesn’t commit him to 1st Century beliefs! Mt.12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, (daimon) blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. Today this would be called “Blindness” and “dumbness” Mark 9:17-27 “he teareth him”, “he foameth, and gnashes with his teeth and p;ineth away” Today this is called “epilepsy”. Matthew 9:32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. (daimon) Today this is called “dumbness”. Matthew 8:28 … there met him two possessed with devils, (daimon) coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. Today this is called “schizophrenia”.
22
Jesus’ use doesn’t tie him to 1st century pagan beliefs, i. e. Mt
Jesus’ use doesn’t tie him to 1st century pagan beliefs, i.e. Mt.12:22-30; Lk.16:19-31 OR Jn.5:1-7! John 5:3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. What is this picture about?
23
Important points on “demons”
If demons were real, why under the Law of Moses was there no legislation regarding them or any mention of exorcisms? There is no demonical possession that hasn’t its parallel in present medical experience. The symptoms are precisely identical – tearing, foaming, abnormal strength, etc. The question becomes, can pills cast out demons?
24
S u m m a r y God is the cause of adversity (“evil”)
The flesh is the cause of sin The “devil” means slanderer or false accuser “Satan” means adversary or opponent Devil and Satan are terms are used as a personification of sin. Demons are false gods that don’t exist Sin & death are our enemies: not demons (monsters)!
