Weekly Overview Week of April 8, 2019 LEARNING IS WINNING!! Math: Unit 4 Geometry This week’s focus is on Classifying Triangles and Quadrilaterals. We will also focus on Lines of Symmetry. End of unit test is this Friday. We will review on Thursday. Please use in class notes as well as homework to help prepare for the test. Review Multiplication facts nightly Science: Focus: Energy Students will be presented with an engineering design challenge to create their own chain reaction machine. Science assessments will be given after experiments. S.S. (BOTH CLASSES) We are learning about inventors this week. We will be doing an “in-class” research project on inventors. Our test on Immigration will be tomorrow. Students were given notes last Tuesday to study for this. Reading: We are continuing our last unit on the novel Cricket in Times Square. It is a fun, fiction novel to read while we prepare for our state test at the end of this month. We will continue to have cold reads with multiple passages and writing tasks to match to prepare for this. Spelling: We are on unit 22 this week searching for and using words with the suffixes er and est. Writing: Our writing now consists of 2 or more paragraphs and students are doing great using the RACE strategy for each paragraph! Keep it up! ACHIEVE3000.com website: Achieve trackers sheets were given out on March 11 and will be due on Thu. April 18 before Easter Break. *MATH BONUS OPPURTUNITY* Students who complete Unit 4 lessons 1-15 at home will earn bonus points in math class. They must complete all 15 lessons by April 19th. Each lesson is approximately 30 minutes. FYI: 4th grade Leap will be Monday 4/29-Friday 5/3 Day 1: ELA-90 minutes and Math 75 minutes Day2: ELA 90 minutes and Math 85 minutes Day 3: ELA 60 minutes and Math 75 minutes Day 4: Science (3 sessions) 75, 70, & 70 minutes Day 5: Social Studies (2 sessions) 75 minutes each
