Ms. Taylor 2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of February 5, 2018 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Compare and Contrasts We will learn how to compare and contrasts two or more versions of the same story by different authors or from different cultures. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the February writing calendar Spend time editing/ revising once you have finished your piece Math: 1 and 2 Step Word Problems We will learn how to use addition and subtraction strategies to solve 1 and 2 step word problems within 100. Math IXL Use the “Problem Solving/ Word Problem” link on our class web page to practice 2 step word problems within 100 Writing: Opinion Writing We will learn how to write an opinion piece by introducing the topic, stating an opinion, supplying reasons that support the opinion, using linking words and providing a closing statement. Spelling Choose an activity from the February Speller’s Choice activity sheet S.O.S for the weekly words – more, really, said Reading Read aloud for 20 minutes Raz Kids Science: Juliette Gordon Low We will identify and describe the contributions of Juliette Gordon Low and how she adapted or was influenced by her environment. S.S./ Science Read the Juliette Gordon Low study guide to prepare for the test Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Commas We will learn how to use commas in a greeting and closing of a letter. Expand/ Rearrange Sentences We will learn how to produce, expand, and rearrange complete, simple, and compound sentences. Ex: The boy watched the movie. The little boy watched the funny movie after dinner. February 5-9 – Teacher Appreciation Week February 15 – 2nd Grade STEM Day – wear your black STEM T-shirts if you have one February – Winter Break – No school! Weekly Words more, really, said
