Under the king Henry II, common law was established
Under the king Henry II, common law was established. It was a legal system that weaken the feudal system: the king didn’t have absolute power and the decisions were based on custom and comparison with previous cases. Trial by jury was established.

MAGNA CARTA King John imposed higher taxes to pay his disastrous campaigns in France. Barons and merchants consolidated their alliance .They obliged the king to sign a document called Magna Carta. The Magna Carta for the first time obliged the king to be subject to the law.

Hundred Years’ War Under the Normans, England was united to France but there were many conflicts starting from 1337 (until 1453). 1) First there was England’s victory under Henry II at the Battle of Agincourt; 2) England was defeated by a small French army led by a visionary peasant girl, Joan of Arc, who was considered a witch and burned. 3) The French won at the Battle of Castillon (1453).
