LCPS Students May Only Take 2 VL Summer Courses
In grades 9-12, students are allowed to take 1 VL course per school year for free. Students are only able to take 2 VL summer term courses during their academic career (grades 7-12). Virtual Loudoun courses are offered at the rate of $ per course. The online payment for these courses are $

Admissions into the AOL
My student has completed Geometry and is currently enrolled in Algebra II/Trig. Will they be required to take the mathematics course again if they attend the AET or AOS as a 9th grader? The entry level of mathematics at the AOS is Analytic Geometry, Functions, and Trigonometry with Transformations. The AET mathematics course for the 9th& 10th grade cohort is Integrated Mathematics 1 & 2 and includes algebraic, trigonometric and pre-calculus concepts. All students entering the Academies of Loudoun programs will be enrolled in cohort programs with the same level of mathematics. The sequencing of the AET mathematics courses is determined by the content in the three AET pathways and is very different than the sequencing in other LCPS mathematics courses.

Rising 7th Graders and Math 7
This opportunity is only for students who, according to LCPS criteria, were not placed appropriately in Math 6. This is not a parent-driven request.

Algebra 1 and VL We will not approve any student to take Algebra 1, as a first attempt, through VL. Algebra 1 is the foundational course for ALL upper level math courses. We believe that to promote deep learning of Algebra concepts, the full year course is necessary for middle school students. Students wanting to repeat Algebra 1 over the summer will be considered.

Rising 8th Graders and VL Geometry
Any registration request entered in VL to take VL Geometry must be approved by Mrs. Mostero and Mr. Phillips.

Things WE Consider When Making Our Decision About VL Geometry
Your students MAP testing should reflect a 97% or above result. Grades in Algebra 1 should be either A or A+, with a strong recommendation by current teacher. All prior SOL results and Algebra 1 should be in the high pass advanced range. The concern from ERMS is not with success in summer Geometry, but rather the readiness for Algebra 2/Trig Honors at BWHS and related consequences to 8th grade students.

Specialized High School Programs
The vast majority of our students who are accepted to the Academies of Loudoun and TJHHST are in the full year Geometry course in 8th grade.
