Lesson Topic(s): comparing numbers Week of: 1/7-1/11 Objectives: Students will compare numbers by greater than, less than or equal to up to 20. TEKS:2(E) generate a set using concrete and pictorial models that represents a number that is more than, less than, and equal to a given number up to 20. Essential Question: How do the comparison symbols help you compare numbers? Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Lesson Plan Students will participate in a whole group comparing game. In their journals, they will complete a comparing worksheet. In partners, they will play a comparing game. Demonstrate how to play war. Have students write a few of the results in their journals with the correct comparing symbol. Partners will play war. Students will complete a greater than less than worksheet and in partners play lego comparing game. Students will learn how to play dice wars and record a few of the results in their journals. Partners will then play against each other. Students will complete Alligator, alligator! Worksheet and partners will play comparing dominos game. Vocabulary Greater than Less than Equal to Number line Symbols Higher order questions What do you remember about comparing numbers? How would you demonstrate comparing numbers? How is finding one more one less similar to greater than less than? What is the problem with this statement? 3 is greater than 4. What is you favorite strategy to determine greater than, less than, or equal to? Why? Assessment Strategy Students will participate in a greater than, less than, or equal to activity with their partners.
